【ポッドキャスト#19 】2020年の年末放送「サッカーと英語」のこれまでの回を振り返ります。台本公開します。

2020年の最後のポッドキャスト放送となりました。 8月6日からスタートさせたポッドキャストは今回で19回目の放送。

「英語と日本をちゃんぽんさせながら、サッカー好きで英語を勉強したい人に役立つ番組を作ってみよう」と番組は8月にスタートしました。

ツイッターで知り合ったトミーと連絡を取り始めたのは2020年の5月。トミーはオーストラリアにいて、僕は静岡にいながらリモートで録音を続けてきました。もちろんコロナの影響もあり、直接会ったことはありません。不思議なことではあるが意気投合してこの番組が続いている。

10週目あたりから、番組の作り方に少しずつ慣れてきて、量をこなしていくと見えてくる世界が変わると実感している。けれども、自分のしゃべりや間合いを聞き流すといまだに欠点だらけのように思えてくる。話すテンション、口癖、あいづちなどなど、直すべき箇所を書き出して改善させていきたい。

ポッドキャストの視聴数は、Youtubeに比べると微々たる数字だけれど、Football&Englishは毎週200人から300人の方々に聞いてもらえてる。itunesのサッカー部門で首位を取れるになった。けれど、人気が出てきているという実感はまだない。熱心に聞いてもらっている方々のことも頭に入れながら何を話すべきかを考えることも大事だろうけれど、まずは自分たちがこの熱中して話したいことを話すべきだと思っている。

Hello and welcome to another episode of Football & English! My name is Tommy, from Melbourne, Australia and I’m joined by Tomo in Shizuoka, Japan. Each week, we cover trending topics in the world of football, and explore them using Japanese & English.

2020 was a strange year for us all. The coronavirus pandemic has caused havoc and death all over the world and unfortunately it doesn’t look like ending anytime soon.
However, in the middle of it, Tommy and Tomo met on Twitter and this podcast was born. We’ve never met in person and are podcast amateurs, but somehow the podcast has gone very well and each week we find more and more listeners. Thank you to everyone for listening!
This will be our last episode for 2020, so we wanted to look back on some of the topics we’ve spoken about as well as the podcast in general.

2020年は、コロナウィルスの影響により世界中の人々に大きな影響や被害をもたらしました。
しかしながら、すぐに終焉を迎えそうになりません。

そんな状況の中で、トミーとトモがツイッターを通じて知り合いになり、ポッドキャストをスタートさせました。まだ、お互いに直接は会ったことはないんですが、ポッドキャストは順調で徐々にリスナーの方々も増えて毎週数百人の方々に聞いてもらえています。ありがとうございます！

クリスマスとお正月ん入るので、今週が最後に放送になります。今年の8月からの放送を振り返りながら、フリートークをできればと思っております。

トミーは初回からやっぱり英語が上手

Of course my English is good (笑). But it’s been really enjoyable. This is the first time I’ve made a podcast and I’ve learnt a lot! The first is that a real microphone makes all the difference. I feel embarrassed that our first episode sounds so bad! Sometimes I think we should re-record it (笑).

I was surprised with how long it takes to put one episode together. We usually record for about 45 minutes and then I spend 1-2 hours editing, cutting out all the silly things I say and lots of Tomo’s えっとー’s (笑)

今年の放送の振り返り
So we’ve spoken about some big topics this year and recently there’s been some developments in each.

Episode 7 was about Black Lives Matter, and racism and discrimination in football. Unfortunately, it came back into the news for some unfortunate reasons recently. With some fans allowed back in the stadiums, there were some cases of fans booing the players for taking a knee before the match - Millwall and Cambridge United. It’s truly disgraceful and shows just how far we have to go. And I think it totally justifies the players doing it!

Speaking of fans being allowed back in stadiums, lockdown in the UK ended on December 2, and up to 2000 fans were allowed back into stadiums. We saw this at some big matches - the North London Derby was one - but COVID infections are rising again and the UK has implemented lockdowns again. To be honest, their COVID response is truly complicated so even I don’t know all of the rules, but for now, there’s no way fans will be allowed back into stadiums in big numbers.

Another topic we spoke about recently, in episode 13, was concussion, and finally the footballing world looks like it’s ready to take the topic more seriously. IFAB (who make the rules) have announced that trials of concussion substitutions will begin in 2021: “The new rule means permanent substitutions can be made if a player suffers a head injury, even if all replacements have already been used. To avoid potential abuse of the rule, opposition teams will also be able to make a change at the same time.”

現状のルールを破らないためには、相手チームも交代ができる制度ができる
