この曲は、86年ぐらいにカセットテープに吹き込んで、ずっとそのままになって、ヨーロッパへ行った時に書いた。
色々な街のエッセンスをひとつにまとめようとしたり、
なんのことを歌っているのか、
自分でもわからない。
元々、自分の曲は初期デビッドボウイのカットアップとか、
アブストラクトを参考にしてるから、その時々によって色々と違う見え方がある。

1989年は、ロンドンに滞在して、いわゆるイギリス北部へ行ったりした。
スコットランドへ行って、アバディーンとか、グラスゴーとか、ロックロモンドへ知人を訪ねたり、
リバプール、マンチェスターへも行った。それぞれに特別な思い出がある…
忘れてしまってることも多いけど。

この歌に歌われている
チェスターという街に行ったことがある。
なんか、すごく可愛らしい街だった。城壁とかに囲まれててさ。
Beach near Chesterのラインは、本当はチェスターって、海辺の近くでないと思うけど、語呂がいいので使った。

思い出した

「さらば青春の光」でフィル・ダニエル演じる主人公は、
最後、ドーバーのホワイトクリフにバイクごとつっこむんじゃなかったっけ？
あれ、それはゴダールの「気狂いピエロ」か？
まあ、いいや。

両方とも私の脳内の肥やしになっているイメージである。　
それを自分なりの解釈で、イメージや曲ができていく。　
Rip Offではないのです。みんなそれぞれに違った解釈の断片を紡ぎあげていくのです。

この曲で主人公は溺れていく。
そして、その主人公は僕の中ではモリッシー lol

This song was recorded into the cassette tape around 1986, it remained as it was and wrote it when I went to Europe.
I tried to put the essences of various cities together.
I do not even understand
What I was singing about.
 
Originally, my songs refer to early David Bowie's cut-ups and abstracts, so there are different ways to mean it from time to time.
 
In 1989 I stayed in London and travelled the northern England.
I also went to Scotland and visited Aberdeen, Glasgow, Rock Romond.
Then Liverpool, Manchester.
Each town I have good memories ...
There are many things I have forgotten though.
 
I have been to the town called Chester where in this song's lyrics.
It was a pretty cute city.
It is surrounded by walls.
I think that the line of 'Beach near Chester' doesn't actually exist. Are there?
I think Chester is not really closed to the seaside,
but I used a word as it sounds good.
 
Phil Daniel ...The man who plays in "Quadrophenia"
in my remembrance of the last scene, he dived to Dover's White Cliff with his bike at the end?
or was it French Film maker Godard's "Pierrot Le Fou"?
 
Whatever.
With this tune the man drowns.
