Review5: How to tie your shoes

Terry Moore

I watched a speech called “How to tie your shoes” by Terry Moore. His speech was about the correct way of tying our shoes. There are strong form and weak form.

Before he bought shoes. He thinks it is good shoes, but he couldn’t tie it. So he asked the owner, and he said that he was tying his shoes in wrong way. The evidence is “He took a look and said, ‘Oh, you're tying them wrong’.” Until that, he thought he was tying his shoes correctly. I thought there were no correct ways to tie shoes until I watch this speech.

Secondly he talked about a weak form. There is a way to tell a weak form. “If you pull the strands at the base of the knot, you will see that… That's the weak form of the knot.” This shows that it is easy to tell that I tied my shoes in the wrong way.

Lastly, he talked about the strong form. There is also a way to tell a strong form. If you tie shoes, and do the same thing, and if the string of the shoes becomes 90 degrees it is the correct way to tie shoes. The evidence which shows this is “If you pull the strands at the base of the knot, you will see that the bow will orient itself down the long axis of the shoe. That's the weak form of the knot.” I am going to try this later.

From this speech, I learned that there are weak form and strong form for tying shoes. I also thought that I am tying my shoes correctly but I think I was not.
