Facebookの「過去のこの日」に自作曲解説文が出てきたので、noteに転載しておきます。

“Woven Breaths” for flute orchestra of 32 flautists
Sep. 9. 2002 Jorge Caryevschi (conducting) The Netherlands Flute Orchestra, at International Gaudeamus Music Week 2002
This piece is commissioned by Gaudeamus Foundation for the winner of Gaudeamus Prize 2001. The orchestra is divided in two groups including 4 soloists, and the second group is tuned a quoter tone lower (except oct-bass flute). The cue between players which I have experience with “Circle of Time” (2001) is limitedly used between 4 soloists, and the rest of the cues is always given by conductor (also using traditional bars). It makes clearer a time construction.
The image of woven figure is kept until now in my principal theme of composition, and that is why I have titled my late works with climbing plants and flowers.
An anecdote; the other Japanese composer Toshiro Saruya has “Fiber of the breath” for string orchestra, and the translation of Japanese title is “Iki no Aya” comparing with mine “Aya iki”, that is just coincidence. In my opinion, the word “fiber” does not mean “Aya (woven figure)” but “dietary” or “cotton” or “optical” rope or cord or something other...

「時の環」(2001)でガウデアムス賞を受賞した翌年の委嘱作品です。
大編成のフルートオーケストラを2群に分け、4人をソリストにし、最低音を担当するオクトバスフルート2本を除く第2群16人は四分音低く調律されます。「時の環」(2001)で試みた小節線を廃したキュー出しは引き継ぎつつ、一部に従来型の小節線を導入しています。指揮者の指示外で行われる奏者同士のキューはソリスト4人に限定され、残りは指揮者のキューに従うことで、より指揮系統が明確になっています。
織られた綾というイメージは当時から現在に至るまで作曲のテーマとして持っており、近作につる植物の花のタイトルが多いのはそのためです。
なお、先に英名を考えてから和名を訳すときに偶然重なったのですが（当初weavedと書こうとしたが間違いではないものの意味が異なるらしく一般的にはwovenと書くらしいので現在の表記はそのようにしています）、猿谷紀郎氏の作品に「ファイバー・オブ・ザ・ブレス」という弦楽オーケストラ作品があるのですが（ファイバーは繊維を意味する）、それの和名は「息の綾」というそうで、それとは全く関係ありません。
