Welcome To Uncharted Water

I've been looking for things that make no sense (new things) lately. The reason behind it is closely related to the industry I'm currently in. I've come to realize that the impression of the forestry industry, at least in the Yoshino region, is that it is highly closed-off. It's a world of craftworkers.

What You Do Is The Only World You Know

First, please bear with me for a while. In the world of craftsmen, the strength of how long one has been in the industry (experience in that field) is incredibly powerful. Naturally, the status of newcomers is quite low. However, I think there has been a change in that paradigm. As elements contributing to this shift, I see the decline of the industry and the proliferation of technology. The debate over whether sushi chefs need traditional apprenticeships is a good example of this.
In forestry, for example, demand has declined since the peak of post-war demand for construction timber, especially after the importation of foreign wood. In response, individuals using technologies such as social media and artificial intelligence have emerged to strategize for survival.
The difference between those who embrace these techs and those who don't is only a matter of time before it becomes apparent. I believe the movement to combine existing products with new ones to create something entirely new is prevailing at an unprecedented speed. It's almost frightening.

A Traditional Way To Draw × A Traditional Product = ??

Now, let's get to the main topic.
Yesterday, I suggested something to someone from a company with a history of over 100 years. It was that creating products using "bending," which is a core tech of Sanpo(三宝), and drawing images on them.
The inspiration for this idea came from visiting an art exhibition where I saw a door made of cedar with a painting of a crane on it. At that moment, I thought, "It might be interesting to portray on wood." I'm looking forward to collaborating with a creator who uses Iwa Enogu(岩絵具). It's very exciting to have someone on board with my amateurish and incomprehensible, yet unknown ideas. I want to work hard to bring these ideas to life. The exploration of the unknown will continue.

Bye!
