WSJ Minute Briefing - Senate Passes Democrats’ Climate, Healthcare and Tax Bill

Here's your morning brief from Monday August 8th. I’m Keith Collins for the Wall Street journal.

The Senate passed Democrats climate health care and tax packages along party lines. With vice president Kamala Harris casting the tie breaking vote. The bill would spend hundreds of billions of dollars on programs aimed at reducing carbon emissions, and allow medicare to negotiate the price of some prescription drugs among other measures. It would also raise taxes on large profitable companies. The Democratic controlled house is expected to vote on the package Friday. 

上院は、民主党の医療・税制改革案を党利党略で可決した。副大統領のカマラ・ハリスの投じた票が明暗を分けた。この法案は、二酸化炭素排出量の削減を目的としたプログラムに数千億ドルを費やし、医療保険が一部の処方薬の価格を交渉できるようにするなどの措置を講じる。また、利益を上げている大企業への課税も強化される。民主党が支配する下院は、金曜日にこの法案を採決する予定である。

Discussions between the US and Iran on reviving the 2015 nuclear deal are close to completion, and the text of an agreement could be closed soon, according to the European Union's senior negotiator in the talks. However, Iran must still decide whether to set aside its demand that the deal can be revived only if a UN agency's probe into its nuclear program is closed down.

Japanese tech conglomerate SoftBank reported a record 23 billion dollar quarterly loss. This came after its vision fund investments suffered from the global selloff and technology shares that was driven in part by interest rate increases, and China's clamp down on its tech companies. 

日本のハイテク複合企業であるソフトバンクは、四半期ベースで過去最高の230億ドルの損失を計上した。これは、同社のビジョンファンドへの投資が、金利上昇や中国のハイテク企業に対する締め付けなどによる世界的な株安やテクノロジー株の下落の影響を受けたことによるものである。

Markets in Asia ended mostly higher, and European shares Rose in early trading. US stock futures gained, and on the earnings front, Tyson foods, and Palantir technologies are among the companies set to report results today.
