Ekko & Sidetrack - Paper Birds (ft. Ruth Royall)

DJ AKiの配信番組「DJ AKi STREAM（毎週土曜日PM 18:00～PM 20:00)」において、終盤からエンディングにかけての鉄板になりつつあるEkko & Sidetrackの「PaperBirds」という曲があります。

歌詞の「At the dawn（夜明け）」から始まり、暖かみのあるトーンのギターアルペジオとシンセが重なり朝日が昇るようなイメージを感じます。そして、ドロップでは大きな海洋をイメージさせるようなベースがドーンとなり響き、波のような爽やかなビートが続きます。

この自然を連想させるようなサウンドスケープを持つ曲に、DJ AKi STREAMでは夜明けのタイムラプラス映像や大きくうねる波の映像等を当てていて、番組定番エピローグの「むしとりあそび」の映像につなげて物語性を演出しています。

この曲を手掛けたEkko & Sidetrackは、DJ AKiも日本代表としてエントリーしたViper Recordingsの24時間世界1周配信リレーにも参加していたので親近感湧きますよね。

そして、「Paper Birds」 は大手ドラムンベースレーベルのViper Recordingsから7月10日にリリースされ、Spotifyでの再生数がリリース初月で10万再生されるなど絶賛スマッシュ中です。

歌詞の方はヴォーカルのRuth Royallが書いたものをインスタグラムでアップしているのを見ることができます。歌詞と一緒に夜明けの太陽、手紙、オリガミ、星といったイメージが描き込まれています。

だいたいの意訳として「大切な人への想いや願いを（手紙）オリガミに乗せて解放したい」といったところでしょうか。

歌詞の最後、主人公はオリガミに願いを乗せ終えて疲れきります。明け方まで眠らずに悩んでいたのでしょう。自分にとって本当に大切なものがわかった主人公は良い眠りにつけたのかな？
