Philia analysis Case-1: Flat-chested motherfucking

Abstract: Mechanism of demand on mother characters with a thin body. Desire to getting approval has a nontrivial age dependence. It causes conflict between destrudo, which desires a protection like infancy, and libido, which wills love like adolescence.
This article was originally published in "Kokasha Vol. 199" from Jidaisakugosha (a group of Japanese university students) in November 2017. With the group's permission, here I post this after minor revisions and translation into English.

0 Mother as a marginalization in Loli Baba
In September 2015, Akane-shinsha, a known publisher of maniac hentai comic magazines in Japan, declared creation of a new magazine specified to "Loli Baba". Loli Baba is a general term of elder Bishojo character with a childish appearance. ("Baba" is a Japanese slang which means an elder woman.) This new magazine was named "Towako" (girls of eternity), but I showed a pretty criticizing manner against this project at that time.
"Loli Baba, as a new concept~~~? Heh! I'm a sizefetishist…! Loli Baba is a simplistic gap-moe. Don't make me laugh…"
It was an year and a half before I read this magazine. A book review by me is like this; On the contrary to many psychoanalytically important aspects it contains, the Loli Baba genre lacks a specific eroticism that cannot be seen in other genre.
In this magazine, however, one comic made resonance with my heartstring. Some people might say it is a half way of Loli Baba.
"Rather shoot into mom's mouth than such a rubber!"
This mother appears as a cat spirit of 418 years old but she has neither calmness nor techniques grown in a long time, as well as sorrow due to the time scale of life far from ordinary people. These are core features of Loli Baba. She couldn't stop seducing her son just because she did not make love with her husband for only 3 years! In this comic, age is merely a gadget to impress a gap between appearance and eroticism. Her concept is just a "real mother, with an extremely young-looking and a thin body".
Here I noticed something. I know a character made of the same concepts. It appears in much more famous all-ages contents. It is Lusamine.
Lusamine is a key person in "Pokémon Sun & Moon" (2016). She is a slender beauty with platinum blonde Hime-cut hair, micro dress, two-tone colored stripe tights, and high heels. Unless she tells us, nobody can tell that she is over 40 ages and has two children. She got many crazy fans by the gap between her appearance and setting. At November 13th in 2017, there were 1696 illustrations of her in Pixiv. It became 4336 at Nov. 13th in 2022.
Why does such a character rock many - at least, some kind of - people's heart?
Here I attempt to answer to this question. Through this question, we would get a new perspective for exploring sexual complex in the unconscious region of mind.
1 Paradox of Babumi
The most significant feature shared in the mother in "My mom has Neko-mimi" and Lusamine in "Pokémon Sun & Moon" is being mother. Here we overview the typical meaning expressed by mother as a fictional character.
Approval and exemption are the most typically expressed functions of a mother character. She unconditionally appreciates one's existence and forgives one's fault. This functions are mentioned by a word "Babumi" in the Internet space today. ("Babu" is a depiction of baby's babbling.) In actual, people often request Babumi to a younger girl, an elder sister, and a voice actress rather than a real mother character.
Here we have two questions. As we can see in the word "Babumi", why do we have to be babies to acquire approval and exemption from a mother? And why do we find Babumi even in characters other than a mother?
We have many previous analyses for the first question. They provide a simple answer; baby can acquire the largest approval and exemption among all stages of life. This sounds reasonable, but we will see later that this conclusion is too simple to understand an addiction of mother.
In spite of the simplicity of the first answer, second question is against it. Requesting Babumi to girls or sisters or voice actresses must induce dissipation to the basic relationship between "mother and baby". What makes this variation?
We can consider it from two aspects. One is resistance against the scheme of "mother and baby", and the other is addiction from other variations. The emotional resistance to the intimate relationship between a mother and a baby is easily understood, by social taboo or real relationship with our own parents. Addiction of a little girl or an elder sister character can be explained by various elements such as closeness of age to ours, and this addiction is suitable to make sexual stories. But no matter what the reason is, going apart from the "mother and baby" scheme constrains the benefit of approval and exemption.
Generally saying, the reason why a baby can acquire the largest approval and exemption is that he has neither a will to any act nor ability to realize a will. He does not have any ability of self-determination. If we desire to choose mother and even gain sexual pleasure, we must go apart from infancy and spoil the right to acquire approval and exemption (*1). Babumi is inevitably dissipates and holds paradox as long as we require the acquirer of approval and exemption to be a baby. What causes this paradox is a discrepancy between the ideal of optimizing approval and exemption and the reality that writers and readers are no longer a baby.
Is the "dissipated Babumi" toward little girls or elder sisters merely a compromise of optimizing approval and exemption? I think it is haste to conclude it. Approval and exemption is a catchy keyword, but we must carefully check what we assume. Is there any hidden premise that can unify the paradox?
(*1) Existence of sexual pleasure or desire in baby must be discussed. Infantile masturbation has been reported. And, if we assume a lower-level desire in the background of sexual desire, its essential nature must be apparent rather in infancy. Therefore, we should focus on "pleasure of ejaculation" etc. in order to emphasize a grown sexual desire. One of the most radical examples of the conflict between inner adult and inner infant is "Nursing Handjob".
2 Escape from infancy
I wrote that a baby could acquire the largest approval and exemption. Surely it is, if viewed from parents. But are we eager for THIS approval and exemption? Is there any variation in approval and exemption?
Adults are eager for approval and exemption because they feel like lacking it now. But what if it is residue from certain younger times? As long as it is after the age of discretion, he could notice that he lacked something and kept that feelings. Especially if he was much loved in infancy and felt lack after that, he may desire to redo his own age of lack, rather than infancy (*2) .
Considering this mechanism, knowing common sense and having sexual desire no longer conflict to optimizing approval and exemption; precisely saying, optimizing benefit of approval and exemption. It is because, if the time when one was most seriously eager for approval and exemption was after the puberty, it is natural to request approval to sexual desires. This also allows not only willing to be a baby but also illustrating "mother" as a much younger, more sexually attractive female character. When we assume ourselves as an age of having relationship with many others, it is no longer necessary for provider of approval and exemption to be a mother character.
Thus, various ways of compensating the lack of approval. Now one can substitute little girl's innocence for motherhood. Then it is not an essential whichever we use little girls or elder sisters or voice actresses or anything. They are topics of individual studies such as Loliconology or Oneshotaology or voice-actress criticism.
Background causes of these variations can be classified by two information; "When and how much he was eager for approval?" and "When and how much he actually acquired approval?". Here we introduce some mathematical representations. We call the quantity of approval desired (or will be desired) by him as desired approval function f(x), a function of age x. On the other hand, we call the quantity of approval actually gained (or will be gained) by him as gained approval function w(x). And we call the product of these two functions, f*w(x), as speculative approval function, which represents the pleasure from approval and exemption at each age.
For example, if one was the most eager for approval at 9 years old, the desired approval function w(x) has the maximum value at x=9. A double-peak shape of w(x) is also allowed, such as at infancy and adolescence. On the other hand, the gained approval function usually has the maximum at infancy and monotonically decreases but it can also fluctuates by parameters other than age. One's preference is ultimately determined by the speculative approval function f*w(x). The reason why we don't simply use w(x) is that f(x) can determine the reality of illustrated fictional situations. Personal aspects of consumers are mainly represented by w(x).
(*2) We should consider other mechanism for a case of who experienced lack in infancy, because it is hard to notice one's lack in infancy and also hard for him to expect that physical contact can make him relieved.
3 Limit of Oneshota and homing to real mother
We saw rich variations naturally appear from discussion of Babumi, by weighting the benefit of approval and exemption with age. However, Lusamine still remains as a real mother over 40 with two children, despite her beautiful appearance. We cannot ignore this fact. Based on the diversity mechanism of approval and exemption, what can we say about value of a real mother has as a character? In what case does it resonate with a certain reader?
In the previous section, I wrote that who gives approval and exemption is not necessarily a mother. More precisely saying, however, it is not valid when the requested approval and exemption increases. Surely a little girl can be unconditionally friendly to us. But it is hard for her, even for an adult sister, to financially feed us, maintain social relationships with relatives, support finding job, cover up a crime, and give advice of life (*3).
Many stories adopt a format of "Oneshota" (an elder sister and a young boy) to attempt to satisfy the demand for approval and exemption. But even an elder sister is not a global optimum of this problem. If the sister is a minor, immaturity, mind instability, and a weak social power are unwantedly shared with her. Besides, if she is not a real family, we may be anxious about being disappointed by disposing the hidden weakness from before we met her (*4).
Even if these problems were solved, still we cannot be confident if the intimate relationship between the sister and us is celebrated by others or not (*5). Some stories attempt to design a perfect heroine who meets many requests. If it fails, we feel insecure to be spoiled by her. However, if the elder sister IS a real mother, all problems above are cleared.
Mother is omnipotence for a baby. Additionally, the dominating influence of mother restricts even an adult because the risk of social participation under self-responsibility is increasing today. Moreover, the fact that she got married and grew up a child is an evidence of her patience, economic power, and communication skills. And a real mother may know almost everything about her child. Mother often has outstanding power to even allow intimate relationships of her child. These images of mother results to the feeling of security and reliance independent on a shape of the desired approval function w(x).
Despite this feature, there remains a taboo and commercialism claiming that most people prefer little girl characters or we should not make sexual relationship with real family. A little girl, a mother in law, a neighborhood, or a teacher often provide approval and exemption instead of mother. Mother character made clever tactics to survive under this situation. It is a hybrid attribute, so called a flat-chested real mother.
(*3) "How to make a younger sister" in Kokasha Vol. 152 states that an elder sister must import a risk from outer world to house. In the heavier load region of approval and exemption, however, rather skills to negotiate with outer world are required.
(*4) It is more likely if she is in a age of interest in intercourse. Elder sister without calmness of adult is often regarded as an astray in Oneshota criticism.
(*5) The scheme of closing the relationship in lovers and resisting against social pressure by elopement was seen before 2010's. Today's scene does not prefer it. I call this modern sense "the Celebration Principal" and will discuss this in other articles.
4 Firmness for the past, fluidity for the future
As we are discussing fictional characters, we have to consider that the visual depiction in an illustration affects to the functions of a character. Before the age of information explosion, mothers and mother characters were required to have big breasts and a wide pelvis for raising children. Today, appearance of mother characters in fiction is going a different way. Both "My mom has Neko-mimi" and Lusamine abandoned well-developed reproductive organs and chose a slender or a child-like body.
Let's explain this phenomenon by recalling the desired approval function w(x) introduced in section 2. And let's imagine a male who has a peak of w(x) in the age of being attracted to the other sex. Such a person is not rare in a society in which interaction between male and female is a non-negligible risk even in childhood. When he recognized the value of the concept of mother character and attempted to utilize it, he would experience a conflict of two desires; "want to be secured and spoiled by mother" and "want to enjoy love with girls as adolescence". In other words, this is a conflict between a destrudo, which points to the destructive past, and a libido, which points to the self-controlled future.
What is "secured"? It is a security of approval and exemption as much as we want. What is "love"? Making a contract with others and bet on the uncertain future. There is a way to balance these two; squeeze all the concepts of mother, the feeling of security and reliance (I call it "anti-fragility"), and the aspect of knowing everything about kids, into just SETTINGS. And then give her a slender appearance like a girl before puberty. On the past of growing the reliable ability and experience, we can graft the future for living together with the youth as equal partners (*6).
If we desire not only satisfying sexual drives but also acquiring the holistic approval and exemption over entire past and future, big breasts and hip are rather disruptive. These physical features are symbols of incest taboo, difference of sexual eagerness, difference of remained life time, and the fact that someday we must be apart from her.
When one has a peak of the desired approval function w(x) in the range of elementary school and junior high school ages, a mother in reproductive age is not enough to satisfy his desire. It is because his true desire is something before ejaculation. In a childhood, boys feel the schoolmate girls like something creepy, but simultaneously he was attracted to them, and glance at their calves again and again. His desire is calming down the indescribable emotion of THAT time (*7). He wishes to be allowed to touch this "schoolmate girl in childhood", presented altogether with the approval and exemption in the extent that mother can only realize. This is the structure of flat-chested real mother and the demand on it.
(*6) Of course the aspect of "equal partner" is just an illusion caused by her appearance. Considering fan arts, however, this aspect becomes dominant in consumption of character. It is because the visual information is sometimes well-conserved in the chain of fan arts, rather than settings and personality.
(*7) Some comics by Tezuka Osamu or "Neon Genesis Evangelion" suggests much about the links between the image of mother and classmate girl. Besides, I discussed the sexual drives developing before pleasure of ejaculation in the article below.
5 For new journey with flat-chested real mother
Thus we clarified that the flat-chested real mother has a clear and dearest psychological reason beyond just making a gap. Mystic union of mother, daughter, and the desired approval function w(x), is a profound philosophy competing with the Trinity of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (*8). Or we can say it shares the common image with the Egyptian myth of the sun reviving from the underground world. A difference comes from the fact that the god of the sun is female in Japan. Our journey of thought started from the dissipation of Babumi, but finally we came back to the scheme of mother and baby.
Furthermore, as flat-chested real mother is a combination of two contradictory attributes, we can generate various characters by fine-tuning these features. It is not a dead-end of subdivision! For example in Lusamine, we can see many tracks of effort of addition and subtraction. Her emotional behavior in the last part of the scenario is illustrated as a whining like a little girl rather than oppressive or malicious. It realizes the balance of the initial impression of gentle mother and the unveiled vivid girlishness. Similarly we can also make variations in the "play" which cannot be ignored in adult contents. I am interested in a way to use softness of the sole of the foot as a substitute of the abandoned breasts or a hip (*10).
We are not living with the verbal information in our conscious. Rather unconscious region rules most of our mind. We must not be frightened by that, but we must understand it and associate with it. Sexual preference is the best mirror to reflect our unconscious mind, especially that related to taboo. Relationship with mother is never negligible in this perspective. Flat-chested mother show us the new ourselves. It is a privilege of mother who knows us until when we started our life.
(*8) Let me introduce several attempts to assume superposition of Lusamine and her daughter Lillie; one is "My mother" by George and other is "Girl's age" by me.
(*9) "Mathematics of Tsundere" in Kokasha vol. 152 describes that such a combination of two contradictory attributes must converge to one of them due to the market mechanism.
(*10) I plan to analyze the structure of sexual attraction of the sole of the foot of a female character. It is strongly related to the fetishism called sizefetish.
