『惑星大戦争』というタイトルで公開されそうになった洋画のこと（その１）
前回『エヴァ』について書いた。引き続き昔話のようだが、今から４４年前の１９７８年の夏に観た映画のことを書こう。
"A long time ago , in a galaxy , far far away."
この字幕で始まる映画を見たのは、東京の京橋にあった「テアトル東京」という映画館だった。
この記事の写真にあるように、スクリーンがおわん型に湾曲した映画館でした。もうだいぶ前に閉館しています。この映画館に行ったのは、たぶんこの１回だけでした。
私が観たときは平日で、お客さんはあまり入っていませんでしたが、おそらく私を含め、この映画を初めて見た人たちは、映画の始まり方にびっくりしたのではないでしょうか。それについてはウィキペディアに動画付きで紹介されているので参照してください。
この映画は、アメリカでは１９７７年５月に公開されていて、そのテーマ音楽がアメリカのヒットチャートの一位になっていた。当時、NHKのFMラジオで、日曜１８時に、「リクエストコーナー」という番組があって、その中で、”ダーダダダー”と始まる勇壮な曲を聞いて、どんな映画だろうかと思ったものです。その時からこれまでに、一体何度この曲を聞いただろうか。
続編「帝国の逆襲」も映画館に観に行った。第１作に劣らない、いい映画だった。第３作「ジェダイの帰還」は１９８３年に公開されたが、映画館には行かず、ビデオで見た。当時、これがシリーズ最後の作品と言われていたのだが、「イウォーク族に助けられて完結するのか」というような批評を見た記憶がある。私の目から見ても、盛り上がりに欠ける映画だった。たぶん、サブストーリーが多すぎて、主題がぼやけてしまったせいだろう。
その翌年、１９８４年に、『イウォーク・アドベンチャー』というスターウォーズの外伝の映画が公開された。夕刊の広告でこれを見たとき、なんだかディズニーの子供向けの映画のようだと思ったが、スターウォーズ自体がディズニーの所有物になるのはもっと先の話である。
「ジェダイの帰還」が公開されて１６年経ってから、第４作『スター・ウォーズ エピソード1/ ファントム・メナス』が公開された。これは、第１作の前日譚で、ダースベイダーに身を落とす前のアナキン・スカイウォーカーと、彼の師匠のオビ＝ワン・ケノービ達の物語である。
この映画のポスターが、私をかなり期待させたのだが、映画を見て、その期待は裏切られた。この映画以降、５作品がつくられたが、これらを映画館に見に行くことはなかった。
幼いアナキン少年の影が、後のダースベイダーである。最近、１９７６年の恐怖映画『オーメン』のポスターと構造が似ていることに気が付いた（気になる人は検索してみてください）。
この映画については、あといくつか語りたいことがあるのだが、長くなるので稿を改めます。

The foreign film that was almost released under the title "The Great Planet War" (Part 1)
Last time I wrote about a movie called "Neon Genesis Evangelion". Continuing with what seems to be an old story, let me write about a movie I saw 44 years ago in the summer of 1978.
"A long time ago , in a galaxy , far far away."
The first time I saw a film that began with these subtitles was at a theater called "Theatre Tokyo" in Kyobashi, Tokyo.
It was a movie theater with a screen curved into a bowler shape, as shown in the photo in this article. This cinema has long ago closed. This was probably the only time I went to this movie theater.
When I saw the film, it was a weekday and there were not many customers in the audience, but perhaps people who saw the film for the first time, including myself, were surprised at the way the film started. See Wikipedia with a video about it.
The movie was released in the United States in May 1977, and its theme music was number one on the American hit charts. At that time, on NHK's FM radio, there was a program called "Request Corner" at 18:00 on Sunday, and when I heard a heroic song that started with "Dada Dada", I wondered what kind of movie it was. How many times have I heard this song since then?
I also went to see the sequel, "The Empire Strikes Back," in theaters. It was as good a movie as the first one. The third film, "Return of the Jedi," was released in 1983, but I did not go to the cinema but watched it on video. At the time, it was said to be the last film in the series, and I remember seeing a review that said something like, "Will it be completed with the help of the Ewoks"? From my perspective, the movie lacked excitement. Perhaps it was because there were too many sub-stories that blurred the subject matter.
The following year, in 1984, a extra-Star Wars movie called "Ewalk Adventure" was released. When I saw this in an evening ad, I thought it was a Disney children's movie, but it's a long time before Star Wars itself becomes Disney's property.
Sixteen years after "Return of the Jedi" was released, the fourth work "Star Wars Episode 1 / Phantom Menace" was released. This is the story of Anakin Skywalker and his mentor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, before Anakin dropped into Darth Vader, the day before the first film.
The poster for this movie made me quite expect, but when I saw the movie, that expectation was disappointing. Five films have been made since this movie, but I never went to the cinema to see them.
The shadow of the young boy Anakin is the future Darth Vader. I recently noticed a similarity in structure to the poster for the 1976 horror film "The Omen" (do a search if you're curious).
I have a few more things to say about this movie, but it will be long, so I will revise the manuscript.
