『あの病気』の感染拡大の前と後の私の生活　：その１４　御茶ノ水駅から三省堂書店まで歩いてみました

お昼ごはんの後、予約していた眼科検診の時間まで余裕があったので、三省堂書店の神保町本店まで歩いてみました。
歩く人は、『あの病気』の前のように多かったです。
ただ、空き店舗を数件見かけました。元々、楽器店だったのか、飲食店だったのか、あるいはほかの種類の店だったのかはわかりません。

一方で、一人鍋の看板を掲げた店がありました。また、古びた定食屋には、お客さんが入っているようでした。

数年前にこの通りを歩いたとき、楽器ケースを抱えた娘さんたちが、歩道のさくに寄りかかって談笑しているのを見かけました。
できれば写真を撮りたいくらい、かわいらしかったです。
もし、私が外国からの観光客であったら、撮影したいとお願いしたかもしれません。

坂を下っていくと、三省堂書店のビルが見えてきました（タイトル写真は、三省堂書店公式twitterから引用。）

このビルは１９８１年に建てられ、かなり老朽化したため、来年４月から建て替えるそうです。

平日にしては、１階にお客さんがかなりいました。
私は６階の学習参考書売り場に行ってみました。さすがにこの階にはあまりお客さんがいませんでした。
ここに、お目当ての小中高の学校教科書の棚がありました。

試しに「教科書フェチ」という言葉で検索すると、いくつかの記事が見つかります。例えば

新しい教科書、図説の匂いと、はじめて教科書を開いた時のパリパリという音がとても好きです。文字が主体の教科書と写真が主体の図説では、匂いが微妙に違うのです。

と書かれた記事を見かけます。確かに、書店で買う本と、教科書とでは、不思議なことに感触や匂いが違うのです。私はそれが嫌いではありません。そのような「教科書フェチ」の人たちにとっては、多分まぶしいくらい、たくさんの種類の教科書が置いてありました。

地元の図書館には、高校の教科書が無いので、私は御茶ノ水に行くついでに、教科書を売っているところに立ち寄ってみたかったのです。
来たかいがありました。
置いてある種類が多くて、じっくり見る時間の余裕がなかったので、さっと見てよさそうなのを買いました。
５冊買っても５千円少々でした。

一般の本で、この内容と装丁であれば、この金額では買えなかったでしょう。お買い得です。
ただし、教科書は現金でしか買えません。もしこの記事を読んで、興味を持って教科書を買われる場合は、現金を財布にあらかじめ入れておいてください。

５冊の教科書をナップザックに入れると結構重く感じました。高校生の頃は、下の写真（ウィキペディア「学生鞄」より引用）のような学生カバンに教科書や辞書を入れて、時には柔道着も持って通学していました。そのころは、ぺしゃんこにした学生カバンを持った男子高校生がいたりしたのを思い出します。

After lunch, I had some time to spare before my appointment for an eye checkup, so I walked to the Jimbocho main branch of Sanseido Bookstore.
There were as many people walking around as there were before "that disease".
However, I saw a few empty stores. I don't know if they were originally music stores, restaurants, or some other kind of stores.

On the other hand, there was a store with a sign for a one-pot dish. There was also an old set menu restaurant that seemed to be filled with customers.

When I walked down this street a few years ago, I saw a group of girls carrying musical instrument cases leaning against the sidewalk and chatting.
It was so cute that I would have taken a picture if I could.
If I had been a foreign tourist, I might have asked to be photographed.

As I walked down the hill, I saw the building of Sanseido Bookstore (the title photo is taken from the official twitter page of Sanseido Bookstore).

This building was built in 1981 and has become quite old, so they will start rebuilding it next April.

For a weekday, there were quite a few customers on the first floor.
I went to the study reference book section on the sixth floor. As expected, there were not many customers on this floor.
This is where I found the shelves of elementary, middle and high school textbooks that I was looking for.

To give it a try, search for the term "textbook fetish" and you will find several articles. For example

I love the smell of new textbooks and illustrated books, and the crispy sound they make when you open them for the first time. There is a subtle difference in the smell between textbooks, which are mainly text, and illustrated textbooks, which are mainly pictures.

You will find an article written as above. It is true that the books you buy in a bookstore and textbooks have a curiously different feel and smell. I don't mind that. For those who have a "textbook fetish," there were so many different kinds of textbooks on display that it was probably dazzling.

My local library doesn't have any high school textbooks, so I wanted to stop by one of the places that sells them on my way to Ochanomizu.
It was worth the trip.
There were so many different kinds of textbooks on sale that I didn't have time to look at them carefully, so I just took a quick look and bought the ones that looked good.
I bought five books for a little over 5,000 yen.

I would not have been able to buy ordinary books with this content and binding for this price. It's a bargain.
However, textbooks can only be bought with cash. If you are interested in buying a textbook after reading this article, please have some cash in your wallet beforehand.

Putting five textbooks in a knapsack felt quite heavy. When I was in high school, I used to carry textbooks and dictionaries in a student bag like the one in the picture below (quoted from Wikipedia, "student bag"), and sometimes I also carried my judo uniform to school. At that time, I remember some high school boys carrying flattened student bags.
