セブンイレブンとローソンのスキャナーは、多分USB2.0への出力に対応していない

書類をスキャンして、ＰＤＦファイルにするため、近所のセブンイレブンに行った。カラーであれ白黒であれ、１枚３０円かかる。

スキャンしてＵＳＢメモリーに書き込むところで、書き込みできない旨の表示が出る。

もう一度やっても同じであった。

nanacoで支払ったのだが、返金伝票が出てきた。それをレジに持って行って現金で返金してもらった。

家に帰って考えてみた。このＵＳＢは、２０年以上前に、景品でもらったもので、USB2.0と書かれている。このせいかもしれないと思い、今度はローソンに、新旧２本のＵＳＢメモリーを持って行って試した。

セブンイレブンと、ローソンとでは複合機の機種が違うのだろう。保存先をUSB指定にすると、シャッターが上がって、ＵＳＢの差込口が現れる。そこに古いＵＳＢメモリーを差し込むと、エラーになった。

紙をスキャンする前に、エラー表示してもらえるので、ありがたい。そこで、3.0型のＵＳＢメモリーを差し込むと、問題なくスキャンできた。

実は、セブンイレブンの複合機で、USB2.0のメモリーの中のＰＤＦを印刷することはできた。これらの店の複合機は、USB2.0のメモリーに対して、中のデータを読むことはできるが、書き込むことはできない仕様なのだと思う。

ウィキペディアによると、USB2.0は半二重通信、USB3.0は全二重通信なので、それのせいかもしれない。

数分ですむ作業のはずが、案外時間がかかってしまった。

7-Eleven and Lawson scanners probably don't support output to USB 2.0

I went to a nearby 7-Eleven to scan the documents and convert them into PDF files. It costs 30 yen per page, whether it's color or black and white.

When I try to scan and write to the USB memory, I get a message saying that writing is not possible.

I did it again and it was the same.

I paid with nanaco, but a refund slip came out. I took it to the cash register and got my money back.

I went home and thought about it. This USB was given as a gift more than 20 years ago, and it is written as USB2.0. Thinking that this might be the reason, I took two USB memory sticks, old and new, to Lawson and tried them out.

Seven-Eleven and Lawson probably have different models of multifunction machines. When the save destination is set to USB, the shutter rises and the USB slot appears. When I put an old USB memory there, an error occurred.

Thank you for displaying the error before scanning the paper. So, when I inserted a 3.0 type USB memory, I was able to scan without problems.

Actually, I was able to print the PDF in the USB 2.0 memory with the 7-Eleven multifunction machine. I think that the multi-function devices in these shops can read the data inside the USB 2.0 memory, but they cannot write it.

According to Wikipedia, USB2.0 is half-duplex and USB3.0 is full-duplex, so that may be the reason.

It should have taken a few minutes, but it took a lot of time.
