原文 十九 (490-19-19)
孟氏使陽膚爲士師。問於曾子。曾子曰、上失其道、民散久矣。如得其情、則哀矜而勿喜。

孟氏(もうし)陽膚(ようふ)をして士師為(しした)ら使(し)む。曾子(そうし)に問(と)う。
曾子曰(そうしいわ)く、上(かみ)其(そ)の道(みち)を失(うしな)い、民(たみ)散(さん)ずること久(ひさ)し。如(も)し其(そ)の情(じょう)を得(え)ば、則(すなわ)ち哀矜(あいきょう)して喜(よろこ)ぶこと勿(なか)れ、と。
現代語訳 19
孟氏が陽膚を司法官に任用した。陽膚は曾先生に司法官としての心得を尋ねた。
曾先生が言われた。「政治が乱れ、民の心がばらばらになって久しいものだ。もし民の罪を問う事になれば、出来るだけ同情をするがよい。罪の証拠を掴み、手柄に思って喜ぶようなことがあってはならないの」
英訳 19
The Meng family appointed Yang Fu to be a judge officer. Yang Fu as a judge officer to teacher Zeng, asked the knowledge.
The teacher Zeng was said, " Politics is disturbed, the hearts of the people are falling apart, it is by a long time. If you are to question the sins of the people, you should be as sympathetic as possible. You must not be happy to take credit for the evidence of sin.”
