【静岡の歴史を学ぼうシリーズ】連載19浮月楼　Fugetsu-ro

静岡駅のすぐ近くに静岡を代表する老舗の一つがあるのをご存じでしょうか。料亭、浮月(ふげつ)楼(ろう)です。江戸時代はこの地に代官屋敷がありました。明治二年に渋沢栄一が日本最初の株式会社「商法会所」を設立した記念すべき場所でもあります。同年に徳川慶喜公がお屋敷とされ以来約二十年この場所にお住まいでした。

This garden is a part of a famous restaurant in Shizuoka.
この庭が静岡の有名な料亭の中にあります。

Fugetsu-ro is a high-end restaurant located just a stone’s throw away from the JR Shizuoka station.
浮月楼は静岡駅から本当に近距離にある高級料亭です。

It has a long history of being ‘the guest house’ in Shizuoka.
浮月楼には静岡の迎賓館として長い歴史があります。

Tokugawa Yoshinobu, the last shogun of the Edo feudal government, lived here about twenty years.
江戸幕府最後の将軍、徳川慶喜はここに約20年暮らしました。

There are also negative sentiments towards Tokugawa Yoshinobu.
徳川慶喜については、否定的な意見もあります。

However, from the perspective of the Shizuoka people, Yoshinobu brought down the curtain on the already fading Edo feudal government by giving way to the new government.
しかし、慶喜は既に衰退していた江戸幕府の幕を下ろし、次の新政府につなげたのだと静岡の人々は考えています。

After retiring, he enjoyed his life in Shizuoka away from the politics of the Meiji government.
将軍職から身を引いた後、慶喜公は明治政府の政治から離れ、静岡で自身の人生を楽しみました。

He had the best garden designer build a garden with a large artificial pond for his enjoyment.
最高の造園家に　自分の風流を体現する大きな池のある庭園を造らせました。

When a train station was constructed nearby , Yoshinobu moved in Nishi-kusabuka-cho district.
鉄道の駅が近くに作られた際、慶喜公は西草深町に転居しました。

The property was purchased by a local businessman and turned it into a guest house.
その屋敷は地元の実業家によって購入され、迎賓館となりました。

As a restaurant guest, you can enjoy strolling this traditional-style Japanese garden.
料亭のお客さんとして、この伝統的な日本庭園を散策できます。

There is also a hotel adjacent to the garden.
庭園に隣接するホテルもあります。
