静岡鉄道の電車からも良く見える谷津山。いろいろ歴史スポットがあります。GW中、歩いてみるのも良いですね。

Atago Shrine

愛宕神社

Atago Shrine is located in Mt. Yatsu in Aoi Ward, Shizuoka City.

愛宕神社は静岡市葵区の谷津山にあります。

Mt. Yatsu is located in the eastern side of the city area and is popular as a hiking spot.

谷津山は市街地の東側にあり、ハイキング地として人気です。

市民に人気のハイキングコースです。

The mountain, extending 2 km west to east and 0.8 km south to north, has several historical sites.

東西2キロ、南北0.8キロに延びているその山には、いくつかの歴史的な場所があります。

With 15 minutes of climbing, we can reach the shrine on the summit.

15分登るとその頂上にある神社にたどり着きます。

緑の中を15分登ります。気持ち良いです。

愛宕神社　参道　

Tokugawa Ieyasu donated a Bosatsu Jizo statue in 1570.

徳川家康は1570年に菩薩地蔵を奉納しました。

It is a statue of a deity riding a horse, and he enshrined it there to drive away evil spirits from Sumpu.

それは騎馬姿の神様の像で、徳川家康はそれを駿府の魔除けのためにそこに祀りました。

At that time, Lord Ieyasu was just 28 years old and starting to become a powerful daimyo.

当時、家康公はまだ28歳で、有力大名としての道を歩き始めました。

This location is facing the ‘kimon’ direction in Sumpu.

この場所は駿府の鬼門に当たります。

愛宕神社　　静岡市葵区沓谷

Kimon is the northeast direction where it is believed evil spirits enter, so many daimyo built Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines in this direction to block the entry of evil spirits.

鬼門は北東の方角で、悪霊が入ってくる方角と信じられています。ですから多くの大名が魔除けとしてこの方角に寺院、神社を建てました。

The land name ’Atago’ came from Atago Shrine in Kyoto.

地名の「愛宕」は京都の愛宕神社から来ています。

こちらは静岡の愛宕神社　本殿

Tokugawa Ieyasu was allowed to enshrine the tutelary deity from Kyoto's Atago Shrine to Sumpu's.

徳川家康はその守護神を京都の愛宕神社から駿府の愛宕神社に祀ることを許されました。

（注：①家康公は騎馬姿の菩薩地蔵を谷津山に祀った。②京都の愛宕神社から「分霊」を迎えた。③愛宕大権現とした。となるのですが、「分霊」がどうしても訳しづらくて、苦悩の結果、このような端的な内容としました）

The original main building was built at the beginning of the Edo period but it burned down and was rebuilt later.

元々の本殿は江戸時代の初期に建てられましたが、焼失し、後に再建されました。

Every 24th of February (or the closest Sunday if the date falls on a weekday), the shrine celebrates an annual festival where local girls offer a special dance performance for the deity.

毎年、2月24日（平日に当たる場合は一番近い日曜日）、例大祭が行われ、少女たちが特別な舞を奉納します。

今年の大祭は2月20日でした
