「駿府城天守工事は、最高責任者である大工頭を中井大和守正清、作事奉行を小堀政一（遠州）が担当しており、駿府城築城の直後から着工される名古屋城天守と同じ担当であることからも、名古屋城と天守の構造が近かったことが想像される。26ページより引用」
静岡市発行の駿府城ガイドブック「見て歩いてなるほど！『駿府城』まるわかり」 には上記のような説明があります。一番の特徴は巨大な天守閣が囲まれていたことで、これは名古屋城との大きな違いと言えます。

Generally, a conventional keep was not surrounded by watch towers and walls such as Edo Castle and Nagoya Castle.
一般的に、従来の天守は 江戸城や名古屋城のように櫓（やぐら）と壁で囲まれていることはありませんでした。
天守台がそのまま天守の土台となっています。
According to the excavation in 2018, the west side is about 68 meters and the north is about 61meters.
2018年の発掘調査によると、西側の一辺は約68メートルで北側の一辺は約61メートルありました。
In comparison, the platform of the Edo Castle’s main keep measures 45meters on the west side and 41meters on the north.
比較すると、江戸城の天守台は西側45メートル、北側41メートルです。

Therefore, the dimensions of the elevated platform where the main keep of Sumpu Castle was built was the largest in Japan.
ですから、駿府城の天守が建てられた天守台の大きさは日本で一番大きいものでした。
This shows the unique characteristics of Sumpu Castle.
天守台の大きさ日本一という駿府城の特徴が表れています。
In addition, the ruins of its well was also found during the excavation
さらに、発掘調査の間には井戸の遺構も発見されました。
慶長期の天守台の中に井戸の跡があります。
At that time, there were also many supporters who wanted to restore the political power of the Toyotomi family in Kansai region.
当時、関西地方には豊臣家の政治的勢力を回復してほしいと願う支持者たちがたくさんいました。
Therefore, it is considered that this main keep was built and would possibly be used for more practical purposes than a standard donjon in the Edo period.
それ故に、この天守は江戸時代の標準的なものより、実践的目的を想定して作られたと考えられます。
