#14【ディミトリ×メルセデスA】英語で支援会話｜メルセデスの包容力に脱帽【FE/ファイアーエムブレム風花雪月】

さて、今回はディミトリ×メルセデスの支援会話Aです！ついにここから5年後ルックに…♪
ディミトリが闇落ちし、そして正気を取り戻した後のお話です。
とっても傷付いていたディミトリに対して、メルセデスはどんな言葉をかけてあげるのでしょうか。

場所は夜の大聖堂です。
さっそくいってみましょう！レッツゴー！

ディミトリのさぁ、右側の横顔好きなのよねぇ…
眼帯のせいだと思うんだけど、なんか凛々しいお顔に見える。

Mercedes: Good evening, Dimitri. Have you come to pray?
Dimitri: Something like that. And you?
Mercedes: Oh yes, that's why I'm here. I love how calm and peaceful the cathedral is this late at night.
Dimitri: It really is...

cathedral（カセイドラル）：大聖堂

はぁ～～～～～いい顔～～～～～

Mercedes: Coming here on a quiet night always makes me think of those who aren't with us anymore. We've lost so many in this war. Too many to count. I hope they all get to live in eternal happiness at the goddess's side... These prayers are all I have to offer.

prayers：祈り

少しだけ解説を簡単に入れましょう。
まず1文目の主語は「Coming here on a quiet night」です。「静かな夜にここへ来ること」という意味です。そして、makes me thinkは「考えさせられる」となりますね。さて、何を考えさせられるのでしょう？それはofより後ろ「those who aren't with us anymore.：もうわたしたちと一緒にいない人たち」のこと、ですね。
直訳すると、「静かな夜にここへ来ることは、もうわたしたちと一緒にいない人たちのことを考えさせられる」となりますでしょうか。
この戦争で死んでいった人たちのことを思い出しているのでしょう。
メーチェ優しい…

ちなみに、2文目はmanyのあとにpeopleなどを補足して意味を考えるとあげるとわかりやすくなります。

そして、もちろんわかっていると思いますが、Too many to count.について、「Too A to B」で「AすぎてBできない」という意味です。多すぎて数えられない、ということです。そんなにたくさんの人が亡くなったのですね。悲しいワイ…

Dimitri: You are a kind soul, Mercedes.
Mercedes: I think you're kind too, Dimitri. Sometimes to a fault.
Dimitri: Kind? Me? No, not at all. I am just...a killer. A disgusting monster.

fault：欠点
disgusting（ディスガスティング）：醜悪な

Sometimes to a fault.この文ですが、動詞がなく、文として成り立っていませんが、「時々は欠点になる」ということのようです。
ディミトリは優しすぎるところがある、と言っています。

ディミトリよ…そんな悲しい顔をしないでおくれ…

Mercedes: But why do you kill? For the sake of your loved ones? Those who have passed? Real monsters kill for selfish reasons. They're incapable of expressing sorrow when they kill. So please...don't call yourself a monster.

For the sake of A：Aのために
incapable of ~ing：～をすることができない

Dimitri: Mercedes... I... I am scared...so scared that I will forget their faces. The people who have died...who I have killed. I cannot let myself forget them. I know that, and yet... Whatever my feelings, it is all the act of a monster.

うん、そんなに難しいところはないね。

Mercedes: It's sad, but the truth is that people forget. You may be afraid to forget your past, but you'll never be able to revisit it. Living in the present is the best we can do. We owe it to those who can't come back.
Dimitri: If someone had said those words to me five years ago, I would be a different man today.

revisit：立ち戻る、戻る
owe：（義務を）負っている

メルセデスのセフリの一番最後「We owe it to those who can't come back.」について、少し解説します。
ここでのitは前文の「Living in the present：今を生きること」を指します。「those who can't come back.」は「死んでしまった人」と訳せるでしょうか。なので、直訳すると「わたしたちは死んでしまった人たちに対して、今を生きる義務を負っています」となるでしょうか。

Mercedes: What do you want to do now, Dimitri? Continue fighting for those who have died? Not as a king, but as my classmate. What do you want to do?
Dimitri: My own dreams... I have never given it any thought. What about you? What do you want, Mercedes?

give it a (またはany) thought：それについて考える

Mercedes: I want to keep sewing and training with you, even after you've become king. I want to be your friend.
Dimitri: But... I have no right to stand beside you.
Mercedes: Please, I can't hear any more of this self–deprecation! I just want to be by your side. Is that so much to ask?

self–deprecation（デプリケイション）：自分を卑下すること、自己非難
Is that so much to ask?：難しいお願いですか？という意味のようです。

Dimitri: Mercedes... I want the same thing. If you allow it... I wish to stay by your side.
Mercedes: I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that way. Let's spend a little more time here together. Just the two of us.

もうっ！2人して！そばにいたいそばにいたい！って！！
わたしを置いてけぼりにして！！
わたしだって！I want to be by Dimitri's side. なんですけどーー！！

この２人なんか癒されるなぁ～～。いい人＆いい人で、なごむぅぅぅ。
