職場「人間の存在に感謝できる話」

The word “obligation” doesn’t match my character.
I want to evaluate others’ favor more highly in vain.

世の中には関わりたくない人間がわんさかいる。その反対も真実だ。私の職場は学習塾だ。週に５回ほど中学生と高校生に英語の問題の解き方を説明している。
There are numerous uncomfortable and disgusting guys around me, which is inevitable, but vice versa.
My workplace is a crum school where I explain how to answer several questions in English to junior high school students and senior high school counterparts five days a week, which offers me a precious routines.

彼らの存在には感謝だ。彼らに重圧を押し付けて、無理に勉強させることはない。今の自分と昔の自分は違う。年齢と経験がそうさせているのだろうと思う。
I appreciate their existence, so I fail to impose heavy pressures on them in order for them to gain satisfactory grades or scores, which is different from what I was.
My age and experiences causes me to treat them as if they were my sons or daughters with parental affection, while this attitude toward them shouldn’t always make a difference in my workplace.

彼らが学校のテストでいい点を取ったら嬉しい。彼らが志望校に合格したら達成感もある。だけど悪くても仕方ないし、合格できなくても人生の失敗ではない。
I feel comfortable and pleasant when they gain good grades, and I feel a sense of accomplishments and achievements when they obtain an acceptance letter from their desired school.
But it is inevitable that they couldn’t succeed and they couldn’t pass the examination, which doesn’t mean that it is their decisive failures during their long life.

この考え方なので塾長になるのは無理だ。塾長たる者なら厳しくらなくてはならないし、たまには怖くなくてはならない。そういう役回りは自分には無理だ。
This way of thinking prevents me from being the main tutor of my workplace because the chief tutor of a cram school should be strict and severe toward lazy students, sometimes should be scary and horrible, we assume.
I cannot be in charge of such a responsible role.

しかし学習塾の使命は塾生を合格させることだ。暗記させるべきことはちゃんと覚えさせないといけない。だが彼らは無理だと言う。それを言われると困る。
But the mission of a cram school should be to cause them to enroll their favorite school, so we must force them to memorize what matters in an entrance exams.
Sometimes they told me that such English words are beyond their memorization, which confused my mind.

受験生はそんなことは言わない。覚えないと合格できないからだ。彼らにはその自覚がある。高校生は中学生よりも少し大人だ。家計の負担も理解できている。
An examiner for university entrance exams never says such a thing because he or she recognizes that this assignment should be absolutely necessary to win a success.
A high school student is more mature than a junior high school counterpart, at the same time, he or she could appreciate their parents’ economic burdens.

This is my essay about my routine at my workplace.
The number of cram schools’ students becomes smaller.
