一昔前の日本において、女性の社会進出は現在ほど推進されていなかった。そのため当時は、結婚して男性の稼ぎに頼らざるを得ない女性が大半だった。
In modern society, women in Japan are encouraged to enter the workforce by Japanese Constitution, but most of them were forced to get married to a man and depend on his income about several decades ago.

家庭では夫が常に主導権をおり、妻は家事の全てをこなしていた。子育ても妻の仕事だった。女性は妻と母親の両方の仕事を担い、自由はあまりなかった。
A husband, naturally, had an initiative in his family, on the other hand, a wife was always in charge of all the housework while she was raising their children, in other words, she struggled as both a wife and a mother, as a result, she had little time to enjoy herself in a free time.

その当時の女性と比較すると、今の時代の女性は自由を謳歌していると言える。結婚も恋愛によるものが大半だ。マッチングも昔のお見合いとは違う。

ところで今は結婚をしない女性の数も増えてきている。十分な給料を稼げる仕事を持っていれば、結婚しなくても１人で生活していけるからである。
By the way, the number of females who refuses to be married to a male partner has been increasing little by little in our society in recent years.
The reason is that she can lead a common life on her own with a job to gain enough salary, which enables her to dispense with a marriage.

皮肉なもので、女性の独立は明らかに少子化に拍車をかけている。今のままで出生率が低下していけば、労働市場における日本人の数も少なくなるだろう。
It is an irony that women’s independence has made negative contributions to Japan’s birthrate obviously.
And the percentage of Japanese people in the workforce would become smaller and smaller when the number of newborns continues to decrease at this rate.

しかし私たちは時代の流れに逆らって生きることは難しい。多くの高齢者を若者が支える状況はますます厳しくなる。そこは政治に大きな責任があるはずだ。
But it should be challenging for us to be alive against the current trend.
The situation where not many young people have a duty to support numerous elderly people would become more and more serious, which our government is responsible for without fail.
