#4_数寄者（すきしゃ）とは？ What Does Sukisha mean?

皆さんは、「数寄者（すきしゃ）」という言葉を聞いたことがありますか？

Have you ever heard of the word "Sukisha"?

古くには、足利義政、織田信長、そして、後水尾天皇が、そして、現代では松下幸之助が、代表的な存在と言われています。

In the old days, it was Ashikaga Yoshimasa, Oda Nobunaga, and Emperor Go-Mizuo, and in modern times, Konosuke Matsushita is said to be a representative.

では、数寄者とはどういう存在を指すのか？当法人がご指導いただいている小泉宗敏先生は、以下のように教えてくださっています。

So, what kind of person is a Sukisha? Our teacher, Mrs. Sobin Koizumi, teaches us as follows.

●茶文化に心を寄せ、茶人を従え援助してきたときの権力者たち（ただし、必ずしも茶に限って使うわけではありません）

●Those in power at the time who had a heart for tea culture and who followed and supported tea (not necessarily only tea)

●茶文化の発展に関わってきた有名な大茶人のそばには常に、彼らを金銭的にも精神的にも支援し、自由な発想で新しい風を吹き込む数寄者の姿があった

●Beside the famous tea masters who have been involved in the development of tea culture, there have always been Sukisha who have supported them financially and spiritually and breathed new life into them with their free ideas.

●明治以降も「社交の場」として茶文化を守ってきた数寄者たちは、しきたりに囚われることなく洗練された趣味趣向を取り入れ、その文化を継承してきた

●Even after the Meiji era (1868-1912), Sukisha continued to preserve the tea culture as a "tool for socializing." They continued to adopt sophisticated tastes without being bound by conventions.

●このような数寄者こそが、茶文化発展の立役者といっても過言ではなく、そのおかげで私たちは今日も茶道を楽しむことができている

●It is no exaggeration to say that these tea masters were the key players in the development of tea culture, and it is thanks to them that we are able to enjoy the tea ceremony today.

小泉先生は35年以上にわたり京都大学医学部茶道部で「数寄の精神」を養成する"茶"を教えてきました。「"数寄の精神"とは"リーダーの心得"であり、西洋で言う帝王学に近いのではないでしょうか。海外では『日本の帝王学です』と紹介すると分かりやすいかもしれません」と小泉先生は表現されます。

For more than 35 years, Dr. Koizumi has been teaching ”tea ceremony” at the tea ceremony club of Kyoto University School of Medicine to cultivate the "spirit of Sukisha.

そして、その本質は「和（調和）」の心です。

And its essence is the spirit of harmony.

私たちはこの「数寄の精神」を日本だけでなく世界で継承していくことを目指し「世界に数寄者（すきしゃ）の輪をつくる」をビジョンに掲げています。

Our vision is to "create a circle of Sukishas around the world" with the aim of passing on this "Suki spirit" not only in Japan but also in the world.
