Yes, the engine number of the incident was 8888, therefore the engine is called Crazy Eights, not Quadruple 8.

This engine has not been scrapped, in fact

As of 2021, the locomotive is still in service, having been rebuilt and upgraded into an SD40-3 as part of a refurbishment program carried out by CSX in 2015, although its number is now #4389. It was delivered as Conrail #6410 in September 1987.

The newly given number 4389 is not prime but factorized as 4389 = 3 × 7 × 11 × 19, and also results from concatenation of two primes 43 & 89.
