Climbing
Sometimes, I use English as a tool to rethink certain things. A colleague once told me, "You should go back (to an English speaking country) from time to time, cause it makes you think differently." I clearly remember that conversation from 10 years ago, and I certainly do think it is true.
Hawaii, is my "another sky"(a japanese tv program that introduces a country or a place in relation to the featured person). I'd only been there 4 years during my high school years, but it was enough to make me realize there was a different world out there, outside of Japan. Japan is well known for it's tradition and culture, and likewise Hawaiian culture I came to know was very sacred and traditional. By living in the dorms, learning hula and hawaiian history, I had the opportunity to touch the soul of hawaiian nature. And that aspect plays a really important part in shaping who I am now.
Why do we sometimes wish we were some other person? Why do we wish we want to go to a far away place? Why do we want to start over?
Answers vary, but I think they are just uncertain of how to deal with the problem they are facing. I am lucky to have several cultures in my background where I can unconsciously switch mindsets and give it a different perspective. I think I understand why people come up of thinking in starting over because I think about it myself, but at the same time I wish to grow up. I just want to grow up, and that is not by putting things aside or running away. It's harsh, but I think it's a very humane way in living life. So what I'm trying to say here is that an alternative way in coming up with an answer to a problem may be to develop a multifaceted perspective. It's like climbing a moutain. You get more perspectives the more mountains you climb, and the higher you climb. Let us all try to climb mountains and see what the picture looks like.
