英語で伝えるACL再建術後競技復帰のためのファンクショナルテスト

本日はACL再建術後のアスリートに対し、競技復帰を許可できるかのテストに関する英語表現を学びました。論文やyoutube動画も参考にしつつスクリプトを作成したのですが、どうしても書き言葉と話し言葉には違いがあったり、誰に対して説明をするかによって表現が変わったりで、結局「こう言ったらいいよ」とファンクショナルテストに関する説明は全て直してもらうことになりました。笑

唯一、導入の説明に関してはわかりやすくていいねと言ってもらえましたが(Deep Lも使ってます)、「compared to」ではなくて「in comparison to」にした方が、意味が正確に伝わるよ、とのアドバイス。患側と健側がこの表現によって逆になってしまうようですが、まだうまく理解できていないのでとりあえず表現を覚えながら今後の課題とします。

Introduction

It has been 9 months since you had an ACL reconstruction surgery. According to the results of the isokinetic muscle strength test, your right knee has recovered about 90% of its strength in comarison to your left knee. I can say your right knee has regained enough muscle strength to return to sports.

But as you know, muscle strength is not the only thing you need to get back into sports, right? So, today, I’m gonna do some functional tests to see if you are ready to return to sports. Is that okay with you?

Good. The tests include the tuck jump test, the hop for distance test, and side hop test. Let’s start with the tuck jump test.


Tuck jump assessment

Let’s start by assuming squat position with your arms extended at your back. As you jump, use your arms to give you momentum by swinging it forward and hugging your knee as you go as high as you can.  When you land, you do again, for 10 seconds.

Check your landing and make sure to observe if there will be pain or discomfort in any part of the jump.

Will it be okay if I record this test? It would be not difficult for me to assess you at the middle of the jump.


Hop for distance test

Let’s get the value of your unoperated / better leg first. With your left leg, hop as far as you can, you may use your arms to propel you or bend your right leg for better movement. However, you need to make sure that upon landing, no missteps nor lost of balance on the left leg.

I will be measuring the distance from the starting point to your heel. We will do this on your operated/injured/right leg after and compare.


Side hop test

We will start with the uninjured leg, you are to hop from this point to the other point. (Shows the line) Please make sure you land beyond the marker.

The whole test is for 30secs do as many as you can. Every time you touched/land on the marker, that’s not counted. If your uncounted hops are 25% or more we need to re do the test. You will have 3 minutes rest prior to starting again.

Again, please observe pain or discomfort during the movement. We will do this on your Right leg as well.
