#113 「言い換え」のディスコースマーカーについて
ディスコース・マーカー（discourse marker）
discourse は 「談話、会話」 marker は 「印」の意味です。文と文などを結びつけて意味の関係を明らかにするための語句を、 ディスコース・マーカーと言います。
基本的な「言い換え」のディスコースマーカーにはthat is (to say) などがありますが、他の難しい表現が出てきても気が付けるようにしておきましょう。
The databases are constantly updated, which means that the information is current and accurate.
データベースは常に更新されている．すなわちその情報は最新で正確である
He is suffering from two basic problems, namely time and money.
彼は2つの基本的な問題に苦しんでいる．つまり時間と金である.
John called me as many as three times on his way to my house. In brief, he has no sense of direction.
ジョンは私の家に来る途中3回も電話をかけてきた．要するに彼は方向音痴なのだ
The train was late, the car was broken and it began to rain. In short we had a difficult trip.
