1. ディスコースマーカーと比較級の使い分け
［その上に・重ねて］
(さらに) besides［しばしば and ～］
(おまけに) what is more，｟正式｠ moreover，｟正式｠ furthermore
(その上) in addition
besides は先に述べたことより重要な内容を追加するのに主として用いるが， 時に思いつき程度の軽い補足をするのにも用いる.
what is more, moreover, furthermore は既述の内容を支持する情報をつけ加えるために用いる.
in addition は既述の内容に関連してさらに何かつけ加えたい時に用いる.
besides, what is more

(比較級を強めて) much, far, still, even, (話) a lot, (話) lots
(ますます) more and more (moreに限らず他の形容詞・副詞の比較級も用いる)
(程度・距離などが) further (距離の意では(主に英)で，(米)ではfartherが普通)
彼らはさらに多くの金を要求した
They asked for much [far, a lot] more money.
↑比較の差を表す語句を比較級の前に置く。
台風の接近に伴い風雨はさらに激しくなるでしょう
With the approach of the typhoon, the wind and rain will get even worse.
↑ evenは悪いものがさらに悪い、良いものがさらに良いなどを言いたいときに用いる。
前の問題も難しかったが，これはさらに難しい。
This question is even harder than the last one.

even 過少使用度：(話)－1
学習者はeven＋名詞（～ですら）や，even if [though] (たとえ…でも)といったタイプのevenを使用する一方，形容詞の比較級を強調するevenやstill ((書)－1)は過少使用しがちである．母語話者は，とくに，even more, even worseなどの形を多用する.
台風が近づくにつれて雨はさらに激しくなった
As the typhoon approached, it rained harder and harder.
質問者はさらに質問を重ねた
The questioner asked yet more and more questions.
↑ yetも比較級の強調で用いられる。
彼はその問題をさらに調査した
He investigated the matter further. / He made a further investigation into the matter.
↑ 1つ目のfurtherは副詞、2つ目は形容詞
私はその発想をさらに進めて新しい計画を立てた
I carried the idea farther and made a new plan.
私たちはさらに１キロ川をさかのぼった。
We went up the river one kilometer farther.
2. another か an extra を使う
さらに2週間待つ
wait another[an extra] two weeks
↑ two weeksをひとかたまりと見ているので、anotherのanとweeksのsはぶつからない。
3. 数字+more を使う
我々はさらに8キロ進んだ
We went ahead eight more kilometers.
(eight more kilometersの代わりにeight kilometers moreを用いるのは文語的，× more eight kilometersは不可)
4. in[(英)into] the bargainを使う
「ジーニアス英和辞典」によると、intoを使うのはイギリス英語
「ウィズダム英和辞典」によると、くだけた言い方
彼はよい夫で，よい父親で，さらによいことにはよいコックです
He is a good husband, a good father and a good cook in [into] the bargain.
5. then againを使う
落語を英訳することは困難だ．落語には「だじゃれ」と呼ばれる同音語があるが，これらを英語でも同音語に訳すことは不可能に近い… さらに，背景の違いがある
It is difficult to translate Rakugo into English. In Rakugo, they use “dajare” (play on words which have the same sound but different meanings). It is next to impossible to translate them into corresponding English homonyms. … Then again, Rakugo world is foreign to the English-speaking world.

7. beyondを使う

8. add toを使う
これで我々はさらに困ることになるだろう。
This will add to our difficulties.
9. 問題演習
(1) 英訳しなさい。
音楽会からの帰り道、道に迷った。さらに悪いことに、にわか雨にあい、びしょ濡れになって帰ってきた。
(2) 英訳しなさい。（京都大学・改）
さらに言うならば，日本人であっても育った環境はさまざまなので，日本人なら日本食がわかるということでもない。
