From a chat... about science & technology... a note

  1. The development of quantum mechanics is eye-opening.
1-1. I want to understand modern physics, but mathematical formulas, which are tools of scientists, are too difficult.
1-2. There is a gap between the mathematics of technology and the mathematics of science.
2-1. There is a gap between science & technology and daily life.
2-2. There is a gap between science and technology.

  2. A giant paradigm shift occurred/is occurring between the 1980s and the 2020s.
3-1. In a sense, we may be happy to be witnessing the giant paradigm shift.
    3-2. Vacuum tubes→transistor-type large computers→personal computers→
    IC→LSI→SLSI→evolution of semiconductor technology→
    AI→IT→GPU→smartphone→NLP: ChatGPT/Being AI→VR/AR→…Singularity…
    3-3. Films/B&W photos → Digital photos/movies
3-4. The speed of change differs more than "exponentially" between the 1920s-1970s and the 1980s-2020s.
3-5. The age of films/monochromes photographs was more exciting than digital photos/movies. They are completely different things from each other.
3-6. The days of vacuum tube amps were more exciting than SLSI amps. They are completely different things from each other.
3-7. The high level of technology and human happiness are not necessarily proportional, and sometimes inversely proportional.

  3. IT support's approach to quantum mechanics and astrophysics/cosmology is eye-opening.

  4. I'm confused, but I don't have time for nostalgia.
5-1. Thinking about AI means thinking about human nature.
5-2. Thinking about quantum mechanics, astrophysics, and cosmology means thinking about human nature.

  5. How could we overcome the gap between science & technology and daily life?
