写真家で現代美術作家の杉本博司氏が、小田原付近に、なにやらものすごいものをつくっているらしい、という噂はかなり前からありましたが、それが何なのかは具体的にはわからず。ところがいよいよその全貌が見えるときがきました。
10月9日にオープンした小田原文化財団江之浦測候所（読み方は”えのうらそっこうじょ”）。その数日前のプレス内覧会に行ってきました。さて、江之浦測候所。測候所って何だろう、と思って英語表記を見たら、Observatory！（Odawara Art Foundation Enoura Observatory）ここはまさしく名前の通り、ギャラリーでも美術館でも公園でもない。海を、自然を、天空を展望するための特別な場所なのです。
The Odawara Cultural Foundation Enoura Weather Station (pronounced "Enoura Sokkojo") opened on October 9th. I went to the press preview a few days before that. Now, Enoura Weather Station. I was wondering what a weather station was, and when I looked at the English notation, I found that it was Observatory! (Odawara Art Foundation Enoura Observatory) As the name suggests, this is not a gallery, museum, or park. It is a special place to view the sea, nature, and sky.
