エド・シーランは来たる新作『 オータム・ヴァリエーションズ』を全編演奏する特別な公演をロンドンの ロイヤル・アルバート・ホールで2公演行うことを発表している。
エド・シーランは2023年2枚目となるアルバムを自身のジンジャーブレッド・マン・レコーズより9月29日にリリースすることが決定している。アルバムは『－（サブトラクト）』同様、ザ・ナショナルのアーロン・デスナーがプロデュースしている。
特別な公演は11月18日・19日に行われるとのことで、 エド・シーランはバンドとストリングスと共演するという。
アルバム『 オータム・ヴァリエーションズ』を予約するとチケットの先行発売に申し込むことができる。チケットの一般発売は現地時間9月15日午前9時より行われる。
「昨年の秋、僕は友人たちと人生の様々な変化を経験した。暑い夏の後、落ち着いたり、収まったり、または崩壊したり、収束したり、あるいは爆発したりした」と エド・シーランはプレス・リリースで述べている。
「僕が去年の始めに辛い時期を経験したとき、曲を書くことで自分の気持ちを整理し、何が起こっているのかを受け入れることができた。そして、友人が様々な状況にあることを知った時、彼らの視点から、あるいは僕の視点から曲を書いた。僕たちがそのとき世界をどう見ていたかを表現したんだ。失恋、憂鬱、孤独、混乱といったどん底の中にも、恋に落ちたり、新しい友情を得たりといった高揚もあった
When I was going through a tough time at the beginning of last year, writing songs helped me process my feelings and accept what was going on. And when I found out about friends going through different situations, I wrote songs from their point of view or from my point of view. It expressed how we saw the world at the time. Among the lows of heartbreak, depression, loneliness, and confusion, there were also highs of falling in love and gaining new friendships.
「父と兄から、エルガーという作曲家が14曲それぞれ異なる友人を題材にした『エニグマ変奏曲』を作曲したことを聞いていた。それが今回のアルバムを作るきっかけになったね。前作『－（サブトラクト）』をプロデュースした、アーロン・デスナー氏とはすぐ意気投合し、ノンストップで作曲とレコーディングを進めることができた。このアルバムは二人のパートナーシップから生まれたんだ。今回も彼のサウンドは『秋』の雰囲気を見事に捉えていると思うよ」
『 オータム・ヴァリエーションズ』については歌詞の対訳と解説が付いた輸入盤国内仕様CDが10月18日にリリースされることも決定している。
