[konekoのおもちゃ箱] 英訳化プロジェクト化⑨ Friday afternoon

I have a class for chemistry
from 10 am at this Friday.
I'll sleep as long as possible and
leave my home
without eating breakfast.

It takes about 5 minutes by bus
to the university,
but I walk to the classroom,
since I don't want to arrive there early.

To tell the truth,
I hate the class of chemistry.
That is, I can't understand it
even if I read the textbook
from side to side.
More over, I can't understand it
even though I listen to the class
with my full concentration.

In spite of such situation,
the mid-term test was close.
The professor said
"The test range is up to
what I did in today's class,"
All I have to do is pass the class.
But that's too annoying.

After freezing of my thought
for 50 minutes, my precious week
has been flied away.

I had an early lunch at the cafeteria
in the dormitory where I lived until
the middle of the last semester.
I never thought the cafeteria meal
was delicious.
It's been a long time since
I've eaten this meal, and
 it wasn't delicious as usual.
However, I sometimes want to eat it,
which makes me feel like bitter emotion.

On the way home,
I took out a cup of coffee at my
favorite coffee shop on 15th Avenue.
Too much black coffee makes
my bowels loose.
However, I don't know why
but I want to drink it over and over.
Since the Caribbean clerk is generous,
he always pours my coffee
to the edge of the paper cup.

The weather seems nice.
The heat of the summer
became mild, and the soft breeze
carries a scent of floral slightly.

I walked in the opposite side to home
and go through the intersection between
the 15th avenue and Pearl Street.
I walked the city in a zigzag way.
A group of students were having lunch
at the terrace seats of the small restaurant
where Banana Split Sundae is delicious.

At the bar of the Low Street,
shop assistants were already
carrying beer pitchers.
A bus full of students passed by.
They will probably change the
bus station at a downtown and
go to a shopping mall to watch a movie.

I thought I was walking properly,
but I realized I was walking on
the main street toward the campus.
I turned at a corner of Burger King
and moved away from campus again
on the Frances avenue.

I passed a grade separation
under the tracks, crossed a
suspension bridge over the unknown
tributary of Columbus River.
And then, I go through the narrow street
between the forests and
across the parking lot of a football field.

The football field awaiting
the start of the season was still silent.
There is only one road that
extends from the field, and if I go
straight along the opposite road
from the campus, it should be Springfield,
but I turned the first crossing into the park.

There was a large lawn plaza in the park,
with a fountain, and a pond.
Children gathered in the square and
waterfowl were flocking in the pond.

Most of them were geese and ducks.
As my major was an ornithologist,
I am able to distinguish between
geese and ducks.
A bird with a long neck and
a big duck-like appearance is a goose,
and a bird that looks like only a duck
is a duck itself.
Geese are much larger than ducks.
Actually, it's as big as a swan.

There are many geese on the lawn
around the pond.
Many ducks floating on the surface
of the water.
Sometimes a duck
jumped out of the water.
The duck's feathers repel the water,
so the duck seemed not to be wet
at all even if it drives into the pond.

A single black swan swam toward
the flock of ducks.
The black swan ran across the flock of ducks insolently
as if there were no ducks in its eyes,
shaking the head frequently and
putting the beak on the surface of the water.

The lawn was full of huge poop of geese.
Geese were shaking their hips
and flapping their wings
on the lawn around the pond.

They tend to attack us
if you get too close.
It looks like a stupid
when they lift up their big body
and come to you little by little,
but when you face it, it's quite scary.

I ran and ran away and at that time
I was about to step on the poop of geese.
I might have stepped on it.
Ah actually, I probably stepped on it.

I put on my favorite sneakers,
jeans, and  jacket with
madras check work shirt
which I've truly loved and
kept wearing for too long time.

The overall color of the jacket faded and
the fabric was fluffy with rough
due to the repeated washing and drying.
But it's still in shape so I can still wear it.

On the day
I was wearing my favorite clothes,
I stepped on a bird poop.
If it was a little bird's one,
I probably won't notice it,
or I won't  even care it,
but the big poop of geese are
as huge as the poop of the
small type of dogs.

Chased by a goose,
I turned back to the place
 where I used to.
There was a freight train on the track.
The driver was sitting vaguely with
one arm hanging out of the window.
When he noticed me,
he raised his hanging arm and
waved it to me, so
I waved my hand back to him.

I went through the underpass and
waited for the traffic lights of
Francis street for a long time.
The smell of French fries comes from
the Burger King behind me.
The signal has just been changed
when I was about to turn back
and tried to have it.
I crossed the boulevard with
three lanes in one side
and returned to the campus.

The campus on Friday afternoon was
full of freedom. The sun was still high,
and the trees lined up along the 15th avenue.
Such trees shined brightly,
reflecting the sunlight while it sways
the shiny deep green leaves
in the wind.

There was a balloon
sucked into the sky.
There was a person
riding on a tall unicycle
through the street.
There was also a student with
naked to the waist.

Ru was lying on the grass.

"What are you doing?"

I said it and sat beside him.
The ground was cool.
Ru opened his eyes
but frowned at the glare.

"Nothing, since It's Friday."

Ru said it and closed his eyes again.

I lay down with my backpack as a pillow.
The sun was bright.
When I closed my eyes,
it stuck to the back of my eyelid in red.

That was how the Friday afternoon
used to go through.

"Since it's Friday, isn't it."

"Will you go for coffee?"

"I've already had it."

"Okay, Then forget it."

"I may go with you, if you want to."

"OK! Then, let's go."

After a little more drowsiness,
Ru and I go to our favorite coffee shop.

Friday afternoon has been passed
in that way.
