Male and female communication
Hi, this is Mocco.
Today is also my English article writing challenge for the weekend.
I have written several articles on intellectual property, but today I would like to write about communication. I am originally interested in the differences between men and women in communication, so I will talk about that today.
Why I focus on men and women.
My family consists of my husband, my oldest son, my youngest son, and myself. At a glance, I am in the minority.
The first time I felt I was in the minority was when my oldest son was about one year old and he was playing with a toy car or train. He took the toy and played with it earnestly, hunkering down as he should, his cheeks scrunching against the floor.
What the hell is he doing? Should I stop?
Unlike my reaction, my husband replied, as if it were a matter of course.
"Ah. He enjoys the feeling of realism, doesn't he? I think he's feeling like a driver."
Ah. I see. They must have a different world that I can't even begin to understand, I thought. From there, I began to focus on the differences between the way men think and the way women think. After all, I am a minority, so I have to understand them myself.
Books
In terms of Western books, this one is the famous book on how men and women think.
The book was published when I was a student, and I remember doing the checklist for the male and female brains in the book with my classmates. I was in a chemistry class, so the test results of some of my female classmates were, interestingly, more male.
Then I came across this book published in Japan. This book was very interesting because it describes the differences between men and women from the perspective of brain science.
What Women Want in a Man
Today, I would like to mention one of the differences between men and women that I have learned from the above books and other sources.
For example, let's say a wife tells her husband about her problems.
At that time, the husband tries to solve the wife's problem.
Specifically, he will say, "Well, what if you take these actions?" "Well, I think that's the reason."
I'm sure that what he is saying is theoretical and correct.
But here, I want you to stop and think.
Why did she tell him that story?
Most likely, what she is looking for deep down is not a "solution" or an "answer". Because they were husband and wife, she wanted him to understand her deeply and be there for her.
Many men may think that they do not know what to say. That's because they are caught up in the feeling that they need to say the right thing.
It doesn't matter if you're right or not, you just have to be there for her. You just have to try to understand her feelings.
Proposal
As you can see, the differences between men and women have been going on for a long time.
On the other hand, communication is, of course, a two-way street.
For better communication, why don't you learn about the differences between men and women?
I'm sure you'll find some interesting insights at work and at home!
