皆さんはお祭りって好きですか？一口にお祭りと言っても大小様々なものがありますが、一体日本にはどれくらいの数のお祭りがあるんでしょうか？
地元の神社などで催されるものなども含めると相当な数になりそうですね。

近年では男性しか参加できなかったお祭りに女性が参加したり、男性がスッポンポンになってしまうお祭りは形を変えて開催するなど、時代の変化とともにお祭りもその姿を変えているようです。

今回は日本のお祭りについて書きます。

7 日本のお祭り

札幌雪まつり

札幌雪まつりは毎年2月に１週間、北海道の県庁所在地である札幌で行われる。1950年に始められ、日本で最も人気のある冬のイベントの一つに数えられる。
当時は大通公園に高校生が2、３体の雪の像を作っただけであったが、以来大きな商業的なイベントに成長し、日本や世界中から200万人以上の人々を惹きつけている。

The Sapporo Snow Festival

The Sapporo Snow Festival is held during one week every February in Hokkaido's capital city Sapporo. It is one of Japan's most popular winter events.
It was started in 1950, when some high school students built a few snow statues in Odori Park. Since then it has developed into a large and commercialized event, attracting more than 2 million visitors from Japan and across the world.

葵祭

葵祭は京都三大祭りの一つで（その他は祇園祭と時代祭）、毎年5月15日に行われる。祭りの主な見せ場は京都の街中での長い行列で、500人以上の人々が平安時代の貴族の衣装に身を包み、京都御所から加茂神社までを練り歩く。葵とはHollyhockの日本語で、行列の人々が身につけている葵の葉にちなんで葵祭と呼ばれている。

The Aoi Festival

The Aoi Festival is one of Kyoto's three most famous festivals (along with The Gion Festival and the Jidai Festival) and takes place every May 15th. The festival's main attraction is a large parade in Kyoto in which over 500 people dressed in the aristocratic style of the Heian Period walk from the Imperial palace to the Kamo Shrine. Aoi is Japanese for Hollyhock, and the festival is named after the Hollyhock leaves that are worn by the members of the procession.

祇園祭

祇園祭は京都の八坂神社の祭りで、日本で最も有名な祭りである。7月の1ヶ月にわたって行われ、様々な催し物があるが、7月17日の山車の大行列（山鉾巡行やまぼこじゅんこう）がとりわけ見応えがある。2023年にはおよそ15万人もの人が山鉾巡行を見にやってきたとされる。
この祭りの魅力の理由の一つが、長く、途切れることなく続けられてきたことにある。歴史は869年にさかのぼり、疫病が蔓延していた時期に、神をなだめるための宗教的な儀式として始まったとされる。

The Gion Festival

The Gion Festival is the most famous festival in Japan. It takes place over the entire month of July. There are many different events, but the grand procession of big floats (Yamaboko Junko) in July 17th is particularly spectacular. It is said that more than 150 thousand people came to visit Kyoto to see this gorgeous parade in 2023.
One of the reasons for the festival's impressiveness is its long and almost uninterrupted history. It dates back to 869 as a religious ceremony to appease the gods during the outbreak of an epidemic.

三社祭

三社祭は浅草で行われる毎年恒例の祭りで、5月の第３週の週末３日間に行われる。浅草寺せんそうじの3人の創建者を祀る祭りで、その３人は浅草寺の隣の浅草神社あさくさじんじゃに神として祀られている。
３基のお神輿みこしが氏子うじこたちによって担がれて町中を練り歩き、神様に街の様子を見ていただくという。
この祭りの３日間で200万人を超える人々が浅草を訪れる。

The Sanja Festival

The Sanja Festival is an annual festival in Asakusa district that takes place on the third full weekend in May. It is held in celebration of the three founders of Sensoji temple, who are enshrined as Shinto gods in Asakusa shrine next door to the temple. Three portable shrines, omikoshi, are carried throughout the town by the shrine parishioners to let the gods see their town.
Nearly two million people visit Asakusa over three days of the festival.
