119日目 古い教会と曇り空、そしてネギマシーン
家の周りに何もないとはよく聞く言葉ですが、ここは本当に何もないです。広大な土地が広がってる。好奇心旺盛な旅人の歩く気すら失せさせるような…いつもならすぐ周辺を確認しにいくのに、この日になってようやく散歩に出たのは、そういう理由でしょう。

●26日のメモの続き
“Whether autumn will bring wind or rain, I can not know, but today I will be working in the fields.” Those are the words of an old country song. They express the truth of farming as a way of life, No matter how the harvest will turn out, whether or not there will be enough food to eat, in simply sowing seed and caring tenderly for plants under nature’s guidance there is joy.
「秋が風を運んでくるのか雨を運んでくるのか、知ることはできないが、今日もわたしは土地を耕し続けるだろう。」これは昔から歌われている歌である。生き様としての農作業の本質が表現されている。収穫量がどうなろうとも、十分な食にありつけようとも、ありつけなかろうとも、ただ種を植え、自然の導きに従って植物に愛情をもって手をかけること自体に喜びがあるのだ。

I do not particularly like the word”work”. Human beings are the only animals who have to work, and I think this is the most ridiculous thing in the world- the bigger the job, the greater the challenge, the more wonderful they think it is. It would be good to give up that way of thinking and live an easy, comfortable life with plenty of free time.-for human beings, a life such simplicity would be possible if one worked to produce directly his daily necessities. In such a life, work is not work as people generally think of it, but simply doing what needs to be done.
「働く」という言葉を私は好まない。人間は動物の中で唯一働かなければならない生き物で、到底信じられないほど阿呆らしいことだと私などは思うのだが、仕事が大きければ大きいほど、挑戦がより過酷なほど、素晴らしい仕事をしているとみなされる。そんな考え方は放ってしまい、もっと気楽で、自由時間がじゅうぶんにある、心地よい人生を送るのが良いだろう。人間であっても、自給自足で自身の必要品をまかなうならば、単純な暮らしは可能である。そんな暮らしならば、仕事は人々が一般的に考える仕事ではなくなり、ただそこにあるするべきことをするだけ、というものに変わるだろう。
