[35] だれが、キリストの愛からわたしたちを引き離すことができましょう。艱難か。苦しみか。迫害か。飢えか。裸か。危険か。剣か。
[36] 「わたしたちは、あなたのために 一日中死にさらされ、 屠られる羊のように見られている」 と書いてあるとおりです。
[37] しかし、これらすべてのことにおいて、わたしたちは、わたしたちを愛してくださる方によって輝かしい勝利を収めています。
[38] わたしは確信しています。死も、命も、天使も、支配するものも、現在のものも、未来のものも、力あるものも、

"Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us."Romans 8:37

We go to Christ for forgiveness, and then too often look to the law for power to fight our sins.
私たちは赦しを求めてキリストのもとに行き、しかし結局は、罪と戦う力を求めて律法に頼ることがあまりにも多い。
Paul thus rebukes us,
"O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth?
This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
are ye so foolish?
having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?"
パウロはこう叱責する、
「ああ、愚かなガラテヤ人よ、だれがあなた方を真理に従わないように惑わしたのか。
わたしはただこの事だけをあなたから知りたい。あなた方は律法の行いによって御霊を受けたのか、それとも聞いて信仰を持ったからなのか。

Take your sins to Christ's cross,
for the old man can only be crucified there:
we are crucified with him.
あなたの罪をキリストの十字架へと持って行きなさい。
古い人間はそこでしか十字架につけられないからだ。
私たちはキリストと共に十字架につけられるのだ。
The only weapon to fight sin with is the spear which pierced the side of Jesus.
罪と戦う唯一の武器は、イエスの脇腹を突き刺した槍である。
To give an illustration—you want to overcome an angry temper;
how do you go to work?
例を挙げると−あなたは怒りっぽい性格を克服したい；
「どこへ行けば、どうすれば克服出来るだろう？」
It is very possible you have never tried the right way of going to Jesus with it.
この様に悩むなら、あなたは「イエスに会いに行く正しい方法」を試したことがない可能性が非常に高い。
How did I get salvation?
私はどうやって救われたのか？
I came to Jesus just as I was, and I trusted him to save me.
ありのままの姿でイエスのもとに来て、「彼が私を救ってくださる」と信じたからではないか。
I must kill my angry temper in the same way.
自分の怒りの感情を殺すには、同じようにしなければならない。
It is the only way in which I can ever kill it.
そうする他にはない。
I must go to the cross with it, and say to Jesus,
"Lord, I trust thee to deliver me from it."
私はそれを抱えて十字架に行き、イエスにこう言わなければならない。
「主よ、あなたが私をそこから救ってくれると、私は信じています。」
This is the only way to give it a death-blow.
これが致命傷を与える唯一の方法である。
Are you covetous?
あなたは貪欲だろうか？
Do you feel the world entangle you?
あなたはこの世があなたを雁字搦めにしていると感じるだろうか?
You may struggle against this evil so long as you please, but if it be your besetting sin, you will never be delivered from it in any way but by the blood of Jesus.
あなたは生きている限り幾らでもこの悪と闘うことが出来るだろう－
しかし、もしそれがあなたの悩みの種であるなら、イエスの血潮によらなければ、あなたは決してこの悪から解放されることはない。
Take it to Christ.
それをキリストのところに持って行きなさい。
Tell him,
"Lord, I have trusted thee, and thy name is Jesus, for thou dost save thy people from their sins:
Lord, this is one of my sins;
save me from it!"
そしてこう言いなさい。
「主よ、わたしはあなたを信じます。
あなたの名はイエス、あなたは民をその罪から救ってくださいます：
主よ、これは私の罪の一つです、この罪から私を救ってください！」
Ordinances are nothing without Christ as a means of mortification.
自己否定としてのキリストなしには、あらゆる儀式は何の意味も持たない。
Your prayers, and your repentances, and your tears—the whole of them put together—are worth nothing apart from him.
あなたの祈り、あなたの悔い改め、あなたの涙－
これらすべてを合わせても、彼から離れては何の価値もないのだ。
"None but Jesus can do helpless sinners good;"
or helpless saints either.
「イエス以外には、無力な罪人に善を施すことのできる者はいない。」

You must be conquerors through him who hath loved you, if conquerors at all.
もしあなた方が勝利者であるならば、その時はあなた方を愛しておられる方によらなければ勝利者とはならないのだ。
Our laurels must grow among his olives in Gethsemane.
私たちの栄光は、ゲッセマネのオリーブの木々の間でしか育たないのだ。
