[50] しかし、イエスは再び大声で叫び、息を引き取られた。
[51] そのとき、神殿の垂れ幕が上から下まで真っ二つに裂け、地震が起こり、岩が裂け、
[52] 墓が開いて、眠りについていた多くの聖なる者たちの体が生き返った。
[53] そして、イエスの復活の後、墓から出て来て、聖なる都に入り、多くの人々に現れた。
[54] 百人隊長や一緒にイエスの見張りをしていた人たちは、地震やいろいろの出来事を見て、非常に恐れ、「本当に、この人は神の子だった」と言った。
"Behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom."Matthew 27:51
「見よ、神殿のベールが上から下まで真っ二つに裂けた。」（マタイ28:51）
No mean miracle was wrought in the rending of so strong and thick a veil;
but it was not intended merely as a display of power—
many lessons were herein taught us.
これほど強固で厚いヴェールを引き裂く奇跡は、並大抵のものではなかった；
しかし、それは単に力を誇示するためだけのものではなかった。
これは私たちに、多くの教訓を示している。
The old law of ordinances was put away, and like a worn-out vesture, rent and laid aside.
古い律法は捨てられ、着古した法衣のように裂けて脇に置かれた。
When Jesus died, the sacrifices were all finished, because all fulfilled in him,
and therefore the place of their presentation was marked with an evident token of decay.
イエスが亡くなると、犠牲の必要性は完全に終わった－全ては彼において成就したからだ。

That rent also revealed all the hidden things of the old dispensation:
the mercy-seat could now be seen,
and the glory of God gleamed forth above it.

By the death of our Lord Jesus we have a clear revelation of God, for he was "not as Moses, who put a veil over his face."
私たちの主イエスの死によって、私たちは神の明確な啓示を得た、
なぜなら、イエスは「モーセのように顔を覆い隠す方」ではなかったからだ。
Life and immortality are now brought to light, and things which have been hidden since the foundation of the world are manifest in him.

The annual ceremony of atonement was thus abolished.
こうして毎年の贖罪の儀式は廃止された。
The atoning blood which was once every year sprinkled within the veil, was now offered once for all by the great High Priest,
and therefore the place of the symbolical rite was broken up.
毎年一度、ベールの内側に振りかけられた贖いの血は、今や偉大な大祭司によって一度だけ捧げられたので、象徴的な儀式の場は解体された。
No blood of bullocks or of lambs is needed now, for Jesus has entered within the veil with his own blood.
今や、雄牛の血も子羊の血も必要ない、

Hence access to God is now permitted, and is the privilege of every believer in Christ Jesus.
こうして、今や人が神に近付くことは許され、キリスト・イエスを信じる全ての者の特権となっている。
There is no small space laid open through which we may peer at the mercy-seat, but the rent reaches from the top to the bottom.
恵みの座を辛うじて覗き見れるような小さな隙間は開いておらず、代わりに裂け目が上から下まで達している。
We may come with boldness to the throne of the heavenly grace.
私たちは大胆に天の恵みの王座に近づくことができるのだ。
Shall we err if we say that the opening of the Holy of Holies in this marvellous manner by our Lord's expiring cry was the type of the opening of the gates of paradise to all the saints by virtue of the Passion?
主の息を引き取る叫びという、この驚くべき方法で至聖所が開かれたことは、「受難によって全ての聖徒たちに天国の門が開かれることのひな型であった」と言っても、誤りではないだろう。
Our bleeding Lord hath the key of heaven;
he openeth and no man shutteth;
let us enter in with him into the heavenly places, and sit with him there till our common enemies shall be made his footstool.
血を流す我らの主は天国の鍵を持っておられる。
主は開け、誰も閉めることはできない。
主と共に天の聖所に入り、我らの敵が主の足台とされる時まで、主と共にそこに座ろう。
