［英詩］ディランの文法(3) ('A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall')

「英詩のマガジン」の主配信の6月の1回目です(英詩の基礎知識の回)。

本マガジンは英詩の実践的な読みのコツを考えるものですが、毎月3回の主配信のうち、第1回は英詩の基礎知識を取上げています。

これまで、英詩の基礎知識として、伝統歌の基礎知識、Bob Dylanの基礎知識、バラッドの基礎知識、ブルーズの基礎知識、詩形の基礎知識などを扱ってきました(リンク集は こちら をご覧ください)。

前々回から、詩の文法にかかわる実践的な部分に入っています。このところ、毎月の第2回と第3回で取上げているボブ・ディランの詩の、文法を考えます。

前々回は、ディラン初期の傑作 'It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)' の18連の構文を考えるなかで、代名詞の目的格の them を考えました。

また、ディランの 'I Pity the Poor Immigrant' を考える中で、1連の２つの whom を考えました。関係代名詞の目的格です。

前回はディランの 'I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine' の1連 の Whom を考えました。これも、関係代名詞の目的格でした。

今回はディランの前置詞の使い方を見てみます。題材として、すでに本マガジンで取上げたことのある 'A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall' の1連の in と4連の in ('in hatred') を考えます(アルバム 'The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan' [1963, 下] 所収)。歌全体の内容についてはすでに扱ったので、今回はその2カ所にしぼります。

これまで、日本でどう考えられてきたかをみるために、片桐ユズル訳と中川五郎訳も参照します。
