5/2/24 - "Grassing"

Yesterday, I wrote about how the noun "grass" might have been mistranslated in the British drama series. Today, while watching the subsequent episodes, I noticed the words "grass" and "grassing" appeared and were translated as "snitch" (a person) and "snitching" (the act) respectively.

Therefore, I assume that the noun was intended to refer to "snitch" in the episode I had watched. Although this may seem trivial, such incidents always help me expand my vocabulary.

P.S. 昨日書いた話の続きです。きょう観たエピソードでなんと「grass」と「grassing」という言葉が合計３，4回出てきました。前者は「密告屋（人）」、後者は「密告（その行為）」と字幕に書かれていました。（「チクる」という表現になっていたのもあったような気がします。）

ということは、はやり前のエピソードに出てきた「マリファナ」という和訳はもしかしたら誤訳だったのかもしれないなあ、と思います。実生活では全然私が使う機会はなさそうな言葉ですが、小説や映画、ドラマの中に出てきそうなので覚えておこうと思います。というか、こういうできごと (such incidents) があると忘れないと思います。
