5/21/24 - A plastic bag

Yesterday, I finished studying a French vocabulary book, reading through each word and phrase. However, I often cannot remember or identify the words and phrases when I listen to the audio without seeing the text. 

For instance, I realized I couldn't even catch a simple phrase, such as "un sac en plastique" which means "a plastic bag" in English. When I see it in writing, I can perfectly understand it. However, my ears and brain fail to match the sound to the spelling. 

Although I feel discouraged, I will try to take it easy and continue studying.

P.S. 昨日、フランス語の単語帳を一通り勉強し終わりました。（読んでアンダーラインをつけたり、知らない単語にチェック印をつけただけですが。）

ところが音声だけでは分からない単語やフレーズがまだまだあります。たとえば「アンサッコン・プラスチック」と聴こえて「プラスチック」はわかっても「アンサッコン？？」という感じです。文字をを見れば (see it in writing) 分かるのに耳と脳がまだ慣れていないようです。ビニール袋 (plastic bag) のことなので、フランスに住んでいたら耳にしている言葉だと思うのですが…。

ちょっとがっかりですが、気楽にかまえて (take it easy) 勉強を続けようと思います…。それにしても、やはり「文字（目）だけで覚えてわかる」のと「聞いてわかる」のは別物だとつくづく感じました。

*fail to ~: ～できない
*feel discouraged: がっかりしている、落胆している
