Murano Shawl -初の海外デザイナーパターンのテストニット-
-ベルベットみたいなマラブリゴレースの編み地-
2017年の年明けの頃。
ポーランドのデザイナーPolka Knitsさんから、ショールのテストをしないかとメッセージをいただいた。
ちょうど、海外デザイナーさんのテストニットにも挑戦してみたいと思っていたためお引き受けして、2月初旬にかけて、テストニットをすることになった。
2色使いのサンプルを拝見し、糸は、たしかいちばん最初に毛糸ぴえろさんで購入した記憶の、紺色のマラブリゴレース(色名: marine)と、白灰色のマラブリゴレース(色名: polar morn)を使うことにした。
針は3.0 mmで。
マラブリゴレースは、編地になるとベルベットのような光沢があり
ふわふわで、着け心地抜群のショールとなった。
レース部分が当時の私には少しむずかしく、どの段のどの目が
次の段のどこにつながるのか、紙に書き出して編み進めたことを覚えている。
-ベネチアの思い出-
その昔、'99年2月に、会社の同期6人でイタリア旅行に行ったことがある。
途中、１泊２日でベネチアに行った日、雪が降った。
現地ガイドの方が日本語で、「ベネチアにはほとんど雪は降りません。
これは神さまの冗談です～」と言っていたのが印象に残っている。
このショールは、その名前となっているベネチアのムラーノ島やベネチアングラスだけでなく、その時サン・マルコ広場や海の上に降っていた雪、その幻想的なうつくしさを思い出しながら編みました。
そしてこのとき、マラブリゴレースを3 mmの針で編んだ編み地の気持ちよさをとても気に入った私は、後にRavelryで"Kasumi"というミニストールをリリースすることとなる。

Around the beginning of 2017. I received a message from Polish designer Polka Knits asking if I would like to test a shawl. Since I was just interested in trying test knits by foreign designers, I accepted and we decided to test knit through the beginning of February.
After looking at the two color samples, I decided to use two colors of yarn that I remember from my very first purchase:
a navy blue Malabrigo lace (color name: marine) and a white-gray Malabrigo lace (color name: polar morn). The needles were 3.0 mm.
Malabrigo lace became a velvety, shiny, fluffy, and comfortable shawl when knitted. The lace part was a little difficult for me at the time, and I remember writing down on paper which stitch in each row led to where in the next row.
Once upon a time, in February '99, I went on a trip to Italy with six of my colleagues from work. On the way there, on the day we went to Venice for two days and one night, it snowed. Our local guide told us in Japanese, "It almost never snows in Venice. This is God's joke~" I was impressed.
I knitted this shawl while remembering not only the island of Murano in Venice, which gives it its name, and Venetian glass, but also the snow that was falling on St. Mark's Square and the sea at that time, and its magical splendor.
At that time, I loved the comfort of knitting Malabrigo lace with 3 mm needles, which later led me to release a mini-stole called Kasumi on Ravelry.
