1. Geography


1. Do you like geography?
Definitely no. Geography was one of my least favorite compulsory subjects in my junior high school days. I was lousy at memorizing countries’ name and location.
 
2. Have you ever studied geography at school?
Absolutely, yes. In Japan, we are obliged to study geography at junior high school. In fact, most of my friends hate it and prefer English to it.
 
3. Are you good at reading a map?
Unfortunately no. I have a poor sense of direction, which often causes me to get lost while walking in unfamiliar cities.
 
4. Would you visit a country because of its geographical location?
Definitely yes. I pay a frequent visit to Korea because it is easily accessible, which means it takes only one hour by airplane.
 
 

2. Singing


1. Do you like singing? Why?
Absolutely no. This is because I have always been told that I was the last person to sing well by my friends and family members who are familiar with music.

2. Have you ever learnt how to sing?
I would say yes. When I was in elementary school, music was one of compulsory subjects and music teacher taught me the way to sing better. But, I didn’t make out at all.
 
3. Who do you want to sing for?
Actually, I don’t sing on a daily basis. But, only time when I sing is my friend’s birthday. On that day, to celebrate him, I sing a famous song together with small voice.
 
4. Do you think singing can bring happiness to people?
Definitely yes. Singing a song is essential to celebrate events such as wedding or birthday, which means that singing can make people happy.
 
 

3. PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION


1.What kind of public transportation do you usually take?
Actually, I often rely on trains to commute to my workplace. It takes approximately one hour to get there, which is pretty tiring due to countless passengers on a train.
 
2.When do you usually take public transportation, in your everyday life or when are you travelling?
Actually, using a train is my daily option to travel to my office. But, because it is usually packed with lots of commuters, I’m exhausted by the time I arrive there.
 
3.Do most people prefer public transportation in your country?
It depends on a place where people live. In an urban city, train is mostly used for traveling and commuting, while people in rural areas are dependent on cars because the train network is not sufficiently developed.
 
4.Did you take public transportation when you were a kid?
No. When I was kid, I went to the elementary school, which is located close to my house. So, I went on foot, which means that I didn’t have any opportunities to take any transportation. I think, for kids, bicycle was the most popular means to visit my friend’s house or a supermarket.
 

4. WEATHER


1.What’s the weather like where you live?
Well, I think it is mostly sunny. But, in June, it often rains, while typhoons frequently come in September.
 
2.Do you prefer cold or hot weather?
I’d definitely like cold better than weather because I easily get sweat. Also, drinking cold water often causes stomachache in summer.
 
3.Do you prefer dry or wet weather?
Dry weather is not to my liking because I hate static electricity which often comes in a dry weather.
 
4.Are you in the habit of checking the weather forecast? When/How often?
Yes. I downloaded a weather forecast application. I make it a rule to check it when I wake up to know whether I should bring an umbrella or not.
 

5. BIRTHDAY


1. What do you usually do on your birthday?
Actually, it depends on my age. When I was a kid, my parents celebrated me by giving some presents or money, while now I lead an ordinary life even on my birthday.
 
2. What did you do on your birthday when you were young?
To be honest, I got presents from my parents. They asked me what I would like in advance and they prepared it. I looked forward to my birthday every year.
 
3. Do you think it is important for you to celebrate your birthday?
Actually, it depends on the age. Until turning 20, it is important to celebrate the birthday. But, after that age, celebrating birthday is usually regarded as unnecessary.
 
4. Whose birthday do you think is the most important to celebrate in Japan?
Definitely children! In Japan, there is a tradition that not only grandparents but also relatives gather to celebrate children’s birthday. But, as children grow older, they are unlikely to gather.
 

6. SNACKS


1. What snacks do you like to eat?
Definitely chips! When I feel stressed at work, eating chips enables me to release my stress. Also, they can recharge my battery.
 
2. Did you often eat snacks when you were young?
Absolutely yes. I made it a rule to eat snacks after dinner, which was one of my favorite time, although my parents often tried to prevent me from reaching them.
 
3. Do you think it is healthy for you to eat snacks?
Absolutely no. There are lots of harmful ingredients in snacks such as an excessive amount of salt and sugar, which can cause some diseases like obesity or diabetes.

4. When do you usually eat snacks now?
Actually, I prepare snacks when my friends come to my house. This is because we enjoy watching movies while eating chips together. Chips are essential when gathering.
 

7. NAMES


1. Does your name have any special meaning?
Probably yes. But, I don’t know in detail. Although my parents told me the meaning of my name when I was an elementary school student, it completely slipped my mind.
 
2. How would you choose names for your next generation?
Actually, I would like to name my children by getting some advice from my friends and parents. This is because it seems challenging to decide the name by myself.

3. Does anyone in your family have the same name as you?
No! In Japan, it is uncommon that there is the same name in one family. Actually, I’ve never seen the person whose name is the same as anyone in his family.
 
4. Are there any differences between how Japanese name their children now and in the past?
Definitely yes. Unlike the past when people used to pay attention to the meaning of Kanji, now it is common that people tend to choose the name by referring to the trend.
 

8. WRITING


1. Do you write a lot?
I’d say Yes. I make it a rule to write down what I should do in the morning so that I will not forget. This is really helpful and serves me well as a reminder.
 
2. What do you like to write? Why?
Jolting down what to do helps me increase my performance because I can reduce waste time, which makes me more productive at work.
 
3. Do you think the things you write would change?
Absolutely yes. To do list that I make varies depending the day. For example, when I’m busy preparing presentation, I focus on it. However, if I don’t have many assignments to do, I don’t write down a lot.
 
4. Do you prefer typing or handwriting when you are writing?
Absolutely, I choose typing, because I’m lousy at handwriting. From time to time, my friends tell me my handwriting is hard to figure out. In addition, it takes less time to finish writing and is easy to delete and paste.
 

9. PUZZLES


1. Did you do puzzles in your childhood?
Absolutely yes! My father was into playing puzzles, which encouraged me to start playing them. I can say that they have greatly contributed to improving my imagination and creativity.
 
2. When do you do puzzles, during a trip or when you feel bored?
Actually, I do puzzles when I have free time. It’s fun time for me to be engaged in puzzles, because I can feel the sense of achievement when I figure them out.
 
3. Do you like doing word puzzles or number puzzles? Which is more difficult for you?
To be honest, I’d prefer word puzzles, because it seems a piece of cake to solve. In contrast, number puzzles are challenging for me because I have to make full use of my brain.

4. Do you think it is good for old people to do puzzles?
Definitely yes! It is often said that the active involvement in puzzles can prevent senior from suffering from some diseases such as dementia. I often invite my grandmother to play puzzles with me.
 

10. SOCIAL MEDIA


1. Do you or your friends like using social media?
Definitely yes! I’m sure we can’t imagine our lives without social media. This is because we keep in touch with foreign friends and make new friends through social media.
 
2. Do you think you or your friends use too much social media?
To be honest, yes. I heavily rely on social media especially twitter. I check it every three hours and frequently use LINE to communicate with others on a daily basis.
 
3. Do you want to work in social media? Why?
Absolutely no. This is because I’m not familiar with the way to earn money by using social media and I think it takes much time to learn it, which makes me reluctant to kick it off.
 
4. What’s the most popular social media in Japan? Why?
Actually, Instagram has gained much popularity in Japan because most people around me downloaded that application and post some pictures on a daily basis. But, I have never used it.
 

11. MORNING TIME


1. Do you like getting up early in the morning?
Definitely yes! I have been good at getting early in the morning since I was child and I must be an early bird.
 
2. What do you usually do in the morning?
Actually I have my routine in the morning, which means I make it a rule to brew coffee and wash my face. After that, I keep myself updated with the latest information by reading newspaper while drinking fresh coffee.
 
3. What did you do in the morning when you were little? Why?
Honestly speaking, I used to play video games in the morning because my mother permitted me to play them only in the morning. I spent other time studying and take care of house chores.

4. Are there any differences between what do you do in the morning now and what you did in the past?
Definitely yes. Unlike the past when I was engaged in video games in the morning, I read books and newspapers to improve my knowledge and broaden my horizon.
 

12. HOUSEWORK AND COOKING


1. Do you do some cooking/help your family cook at home now?
Well, actually, I’m really into cooking by myself now. I found the cooking YouTuber, who teaches us to cook in an easy and cost-saving way, which has made me absorbed in cooking.
 
2. Did you do some house cleaning when you were young?
No not at all. Actually, my mother took care of that kind of house chore. But now I clean my room because there is no one to do for me.
 
3. Do you have breakfast at home every day?
Definitely, yes. I have a habit of eating breakfast in the morning because it is essential for me to be more productive in a day.
 
4. Do you want to learn how to cook well?
Actually, no. I think it takes much time for me to be skillful cook because I’m originally lousy at cooking. So, I’m satisfied with my present cooking skill.

 
13. TECHNOLOGY


1. What technology do you often use, computers or cellphones?
Actually, I heavily rely on my computers because computers enable me to communicate with my friends and colleagues, which is indispensable in my life.
 
2. What electronic devices have you bought lately?
If my memory serves me right, Apple Watch is recent one I bought three years. I’m pretty satisfied with the convenience that it offers to me like calling with it and checking e-mail.

3. Is there any technology you want to buy?
I’d say 3D printer. I’ve been curious about what I can do with it and I’m sure this sophisticated technology will change the world.

4. Is technology important in your life?
Absolutely yes! Without technology, my work efficiency would be much lower than it is. In addition, it would be challenging to lead a comfortable life like the present one.
