What is it like to work in "fully remote" and "global"?
At Maisond, members are staying in around the world and various parts of Japan and they are working there.
Most members work fully remotely.
In addition, depending on members and situation, Japanese and English are used for the in-house communication and publicity.
Today I will share you the "Comfort points" and "Points for smooth work"
I learned while working at Maisond!
Comfort points
・ We don't need to mind the mistake of words
We communicate in a second language on a daily basis, so grammatical mistakes and minor mistakes are accepted tolerate. Even if you make a mistake, everyone will smile, and no one will judge you as "You are incompetent", so you can communicate with having big psychological safety.
・Not judge by age or career
We have different nationalities, cultures, learned and experienced completely different things. We don't think which one is superior or inferior, but it just feels like "everyone is different". Some people are good at drawing and design, while others are good at desk work and sales.
I feel that everyone's "goodness" and "weakness" overlap and we can support each other.
・ Communication is done in simple words
Especially in a global environment, it makes confuse a roundabout way of saying and to tell the conclusion at the end. We tend to tell straight what you want to say and what you want someone to do, and no one will think that "It's rude!".
・ Chatting is so fun
There are many people who know many things you have never heard and have unimaginable experience, so chatting is so fun!
We often chat after the meeting and realized "Eh! It's been so long!" ..
Points for smooth work
・ Be sure to inform in English & Japanese
Even if everyone can read English, the speed of reading is different for each person. So is Japanese.
We need to be sure to post in both Japanese and English so that everyone can receive information as quickly as possible.
・ Be sure taking minutes in meeting
With members from all over the world, it is extremely difficult to adjust the date and time of meetings that everyone can attend. Keep the minutes firmly so that members who could not attend the meeting can catch up later.
(Of course, we take minutes even if everyone attends!)
・ Before telling, value "understanding"
Especially when the other person is trying to convey something in a second language, listen to their story to the end and paraphrase it in simple words to check if our understanding is correct.
I feel that it is important to align the starting line in order to discuss the issues together.
