以前のお仕事をご紹介します。あまり過去を振り返るのは好きではないけれど、せっかく多くの素敵なプロジェクトに参加をして来ましたので、その作品たちの素晴らしさをぜひお届けしたい。

その第一弾は　ー Play Station ゲーム「ICO」のテーマ曲「You Were There」

2001年にそのオリジナル作詞を書かせて頂きました。大島ミチル先生の美しい旋律は今でも多くの方に愛され、若いミュージシャンにも多大な影響を与えています。

ボーカルはイギリスの少年合唱団LiberaのSteven Geraghty氏。そのコーディネーションも担当をさせて頂きました。

ニッチなゲームでありながらもその影響力が強く、小説家の宮部みゆきさんの強いご要望によって小説版が2004年に出版されました。少年がお城に閉じ込められているヒロインを救出するという至ってシンプルなストーリーですが、幻想的な名シーンがプレイヤーの心にいつまでも残る。

Throwback Thursday - Part One
I don't like to rest on my laurels, because I would prefer to concentrate on both the present and the future. But I decided to introduce some of my previous work every Thursday. I have had the good fortune to be involved in some amazing Japanese projects over the years and it seems a shame not to share and introduce them to new listeners.

ICO - Theme Song "You Were There"

"You were there, countless visions they haunt me in my sleeps
You were there, though forgotten all promises we keep"

In 2001, I wrote the lyrics to the theme tune to the legendary Play Station game - ICO. It is one of the most beautiful melodies I have ever heard and the song "You Were There" is still a beloved song within the gaming community. It influenced the lives of a generation of young musicians and I was lucky to be a part of it.

The real credit must go, however, to the composer - the incomparable Michiru Oshima - and the singer - Steven Geraghty - a boy soprano from the English boys choir Libera. I also handled the coordination.

The game itself was so influential, one of Japan's top novelists Miyuki Miyabe wrote a novel based on the game. A simple story of our hero rescuing the heroine from a castle, the mystic beauty of its scenes lingers on in the hearts of its players, long after they have finished.
