Global Journey Diary vol.7 - Honoka Sakurai

Hi everyone,
It’s Honoka, and I was in Western Australia by the end of November for studying business.

Recently, us senior students have been getting serious about job hunting, and the selection process is progressing quickly. I often talk about my study abroad experiences in interviews, so this blog is a great opportunity for me to recall the details and organize my thoughts.

So, in this blog, I'd like to introduce some cafes in Western Australia that I, a café enthusiast during my study abroad, would recommend to all of you.

This is the second installment of café recommendations.

Let's get started!

1. "Sayers Little Brother" in Claisebrook

The first café I'm gonna introduce is "Sayers Little Brother." It's about a 3-minute walk from Claisebrook Station.

Actually, this café has another sister shop called "Sayers Sister" in Western Australia. It also has a great atmosphere and is always bustling with people.
Since there's a big park nearby, it must be really nice to sit on a bench on a sunny day and enjoy your coffee.

If you're interested, be sure to visit there too.

When I visited "Sayers Little Brother" on a sunny Saturday morning, I remember the open and airy space with sunlight streaming in. I can recall seeing a couple chatting with the staff while sitting on the terrace.

The interior of the café caught my eye with its exposed iron columns, gridded ceiling, and wires wrapped around the grid connecting to light bulbs.

I wanted to recommend this café to everyone because, simply put, the apple French toast I had here was the most delicious I've ever tasted.

The toast with a nice crisp, topped with baked apples, cookies, vanilla ice cream, and cinnamon powder, made me feel incredibly happy with every bite.

If I could eat something like this every day, how happy would I be... I couldn't help but envy Australia for having so many wonderful cafés like this.

2. "Arrival Hall" in Northbridge

The second café is "Arrival Hall," an elegant café located in Northbridge, just near Perth.

This place isn't just a café where you can enjoy coffee and meals; it also has a showroom displaying cute furniture.

So, as soon as you enter, you'll see a showroom filled with stylish furniture.

As you walk further into the showroom, you'll find the café you're looking for. As expected from a furniture store, the café's atmosphere was very stylish as well.

I ordered a mocha, and my friend ordered a matcha latte. I hope to be able to make latte art like this someday.

3. "The Coffee Connection" in Fremantle

The last one I want to introduce is a café in Fremantle (Freo), a port town about 30 minutes by train from Perth, the heart of Western Australia.

Freo is a really nice port town with lots of attractions, so even if you're not going specifically for this café, I highly recommend it as a sightseeing spot for those visiting Western Australia.

Because Australia was once a British colony, you often feel a British vibe from the buildings as you walk through the city. Especially in Freo, the British influence is strong, making it a delightful city to explore for those who love European-style streets.

In Freo, where European-style buildings line the streets, there are many attractions, such as "Cappuccino Strip," where numerous cafés line up, and "Bathers Beach," where you can overlook the turquoise sea. But among them, I want you to try visiting "Fremantle Market."

Always crowded on weekends

Fremantle Market is a market held only on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, but it's a perfect place to find Australian souvenirs as it has various shops selling unique Australian products.

I bought a beautiful ring made with sea stones from the beaches of Western Australia for myself. Also, when I first went out with my friends, we also came to Freo, and we bought matching pencil cases at this market.

For me, this market was an essential place during my study abroad, as it had many items that reminded me of wonderful memories.

And finally, the café I want to introduce is also located in Fremantle Market. It's called "The Coffee Connection."
Every time I came to this market, I always relied on this café.

Unlike other cafés, this café has a variety of coffees with interesting names like "Tiramisu" and "Chocolate mint" displayed on the counter.

With so many options, I always want to try a different flavor whenever I come to the market.

When you visit Fremantle Market, why not stop by this café and stroll around the market with a cup of coffee in hand?

It's almost time to wrap it up.

How was the second installment of recommended cafés in Western Australia?

When I first found out my study abroad destination was Perth, I used to wonder, "What's in Perth, Australia?" in my ignorance. But looking back on my study abroad experience, I think studying in Perth was a great choice.

There are beautiful beaches, rich nature, always good weather that makes you feel refreshed just by walking outside. The people are warm, and there are many wonderful cafés as I introduced.

So, when you visit Perth, please be sure to stop by my recommended cafés.

Well then, that's it for this time.
