Initial thoughts

It's here, the proper Mitsumine event that I was waiting for. When the card art was revealed for the first time, I was actually… scared, because I did not want to see a scenario where Mitsumine loses. The idea of a (in-universe) scriptwriter writing about a Knight Captain Kogane and Knight Captain Mitsumine dueling to the death was something that terrified me.

Since the beginning, whenever I pictured MTMN vs. Kogatan in some competition or skit, I imagined that MTMN wouldn't see herself as a winner when Kogane is concerned. So it's as if she had given up the hope of ever besting her. It was something I knew that she would have to face eventually, and I was wondering if the writers were up to the task to give her the best possible ending while keeping the respect intact for all character involved…

Back in Yuika5 雨に祝福, the casting director offered the role of the main heroine's best friend to Mitsumine. His reason being that it is a 100% fit with her image of a sly, mischievous, and supporting person.

Even back in the L'Antica event Story Story, Yuika was very uncomfortable with the initial direction of the TV series L'Antica was featured in. She (and everyone else) were bothered by the intent to portray Kogane in an unappealing way, and she was just as bothered when the staging made it seem that Yuika herself was the leader and center── something that she is not.

Point being is that she had conducted her life and image in such a way that she was not perceived to be a "main heroine". The reality is that she knows where her place is, especially in comparison to where Kogane stands as leader and absolute center and perhaps even in comparison to what a "main lead" is.

After all, she considers Kogane as the sun (太陽), and I was steeling myself for Kogane's win in what may have been similar to Straylight Vs. event.

There was no denying that the person before her was like the sun.
l look the other way unless I let my precious wings break.
I can't conquer it if I continue to yearn for its brilliance.

So that's was I was thinking going into this event.
Let's bring back the ≠ concept again:

  • How her view as an idol ≠ to her view of her peers (WING/GRAD)

  • How her view as an idol ≠ to her producer's view of her (NE)

  • How her view as an idol ≠ to others' view of her (Yuika5/pSR3)

  • How the current image of [Idol Mitsumine] is ≠ to the ideal image of [Idol Mitsumine]

  • How [Yuika Mitsumine] ≠ to [Idol Mitsumine]

I think of this as a small checklist on what to expect, since the goal is to go from [≠ → =].

The Ideal Idol

Back in WING, ShinyP asked Yuika what the "idol of her dreams" means to her.

Yuika: ...One day, Mitsumine will become the idol of her dreams.
Though, right now I'm nowhere close.
Producer: What would the "idol of your dreams" mean to you, Yuika?
Yuika: An idol that can inspire people, I guess.
Yuika:  I had it in my head that they were totally different than I was.
When I think about what the Mitsumine of the past would think of the Mitsumine now,
I realize that I've found my place as an idol.
So, I want to become an idol that's able to inspire someone...
The same way they inspired me.

She more or less wants to become an idol that inspires others, and already I think of how Kogane fits the bill as someone representing that.
Details can be found here in previous Note:
https://note.com/lewdacriz/n/n69650cf6994a#85c57aa4-70a8-45ad-8e7c-c12544bfd482

I knew that she would have to face Kogane about something like this anyway, so I went into the event expecting these to be addressed all while being eager yet cautious:

  • How the current image of [Idol Mitsumine] is ≠ to the ideal image of [Idol Mitsumine]

  • How her view as an idol ≠ to others' view of her (Yuika5/pSR3)

  • How her view as an idol ≠ to her view of her peers (WING/GRAD)

月/太陽

From the get-go, we know of Kogane as the sun (太陽) but we also know that her motif is the moon (月) because of her last name Tsukioka (月岡).

It goes without saying that Kogane is the 太陽/月 in 月が焦がれる太陽/月 while Yuika is the moon (月) yearning for the light of the sun── the moon only shines because of the sun…

In short, apart from the fear of her jobbing or willfully taking the L, I came in expecting for Yuika to depend less on Kogane and to also have her view herself as Kogane's equal in spite of mishaps, losses, and failures. I came in not just wanting to see  [≠ → =] but to also see  her go from 月→太陽.

Yuika: I want to be the main protagonist.
(Yuika STEP)

Intro - 私を撃ち抜いたもの

So we're opening with this, huh?

I'm amused that they're probably pushing for Mitsumine to be in Vol2.

But anyways, it starts off with a flashback to Mitsumine's first encounter with an idol performing during an anime event. She became immediately hooked and enthralled by her presence, and thus started her dive into what we like to call "idol hell".

Immediately, I think back to her STEP scenario where she's watching an idol program.

Yuika: Am I able to look at something so awe-inspiring and say "I want to do that too"?

It was after she was scouted that she starts to think back how she felt as an idol fan seeing idols perform. Idols give off a brilliant shine, and their charisma draws in the eyes of the audience. It was in STEP that she had realized that she wanted to be part of that brilliant world and to be associated with the idols she admires.

But there are those who shine like the sun off-stage.

Kogane: Don't ya worry 'bout a thing. Let's look for your mother together!
Umm, and your name is~?
Boy: Rikuto
Kogane: Rikuto, eh? Nfufu, nice to meet ya~
Let's get your face cleaned up!

Kogane spots a crying boy who was got separated from his mother and elects to help the kid reunite with her. Along the way, she catches the attention of other people who recognize her from L'Antica, and they all try to help her find the boy's mother too. Eventually, she reunites the boy with his mother (who also recognizes her as an idol).

This scene is deliberate following from the earlier flashback to Yuika describing how she felt when she first witnessed an idol's performance. While it's obvious that L'Antica is 283pro's most well-recognized unit, we get to see these mob characters being starry-eyed over seeing Kogane in person.

She's off-stage, but I think it's telling that the people seeing Kogane is comparable to the how Yuika has seen her first idol, the very one that made her yearn for the light.

So it would be no surprise to me that Yuika yearns for Kogane's light, just as the moon that can't shine with its own light yearns for the brilliance of the sun, and just as an idol fan diving into the brilliance of their idol on stage.

Chapter 1 - ずっと焦がれていたんだって

I've always been yearning for it

Kogane (and ShinyP) had their flight back home delayed, so L'Antica had no choice but to perform in Round 1 of "Idol Star Showdown" without Kogane.

So without the light of Kogane around, Yuika lost her groove, and wonders why everyone was fine with it. Do they not think the same way?

Yuika: (Why is everyone… cool with it?)
Yuika: (Aren't you all worried that we're missing someone?!)
Yuika: (Am I the only one who's freaking out here?!)

To me, it seems that the answer is because everyone else doesn't yearn for the sun as Mitsumine does. This dilemma is, I think, is more or less unique to her among 283pro coming from her position as an avid idol otaku. Mitsumine knows that something is wrong, and she wonders why she feels so unsettled even when the performance went perfectly.

So she consults with the only person she can go to… ShinyP.

Producer: It's because it's reassuring to have Kogane there with you.
Yuika: Exactly! Kogatan is like… the sun, you know?
A bright sun full of energy that shines on everyone else.
Too bright to look at directly, but it still gives you warmth.
Yuika: I feel reassured whenever she smiles.
She shines like an idol no matter where she is!
Producer: So in other words, she's the kind of person you yearn for.
Yuika: Huh?
Producer: Hmm? Am I mistaken?
It seemed you admired and yearned for her as an idol.
Yuika: Well, that's… I guess, you're right…?
Huh? So… The reason why I felt like that was because…
I've been seeing Kogatan in that way?

I think the nuance is lost here in english (and/or my eloquence is lacking.)
The feeling that Yuika experiences is definitely "akogare" (憧れ) which is another word for "to yearn", but the word isn't merely about longing and admiration. I think this says it best:

Akogare could be understood to a Western audience as a deep feeling of respect and admiration one may feel for someone they greatly look up to. Usually this is someone who is far more talented. This feeling of akogare is tinged with the understanding of one’s own shortcomings and the knowledge that the same level of talent is unattainable. This is where the feelings of yearning or longing can come in.

Richard Baird

Yuika perceives a gap between herself and Kogane. When comparing herself to Kogane, she is the moon while Kogane is the sun. Kogane is the sun that can't be within Yuika's reach. That's why 月が焦がれる太陽.

The reality is that she knows where her place is, especially in comparison to where Kogane stands as leader and absolute center and perhaps even in comparison to what a "main lead" is.

That's why "comparison" and seeing it as gap that you can't reach in spite of your current abilities is fitting. Let's look at Story Story.

SNS Post: [Our Mitsumine is the absolute center and leader]
Yuika: But the the absolute center… is none other than Kogatan…!

Yuika here is stating a fact. She didn't want the TV show's direction to portray that something that she and Kogane isn't. But the one making this post is a fan of Mitsumine, so seeing her in that light makes them happy even if Yuika thinks that it gives them the wrong idea about what she and Kogane and L'Antica are.

Yuika Mitsumine knows her place, and it isn't the "center and leader position". Yuika sees that Kogane as fitting for that role, since Kogane shines a marvelous light as an idol. She yearns and aspires for the glory and light of being the sun just as she has seen her very first idol. Perhaps it is to be like Kogane the idol, who is the absolute center and leader. But because it's so bright and dazzling, she feels like she cannot achieve that same greatness, hence the feeling of "akogare" (憧れ).

But it's interesting because the rest of L'Antica were unbothered with Kogane missing and did things as usual. They do not see Kogane in the same way Yuika does. Yuika became made aware of how she perceives Kogane compared to the others, and that is why she was bothered by Kogane's absence.

Just like in NOT≠EQUAL, Mitsumine was bothered by the perceived distance and perspective that she realized with Kogane's absence.

A moon shines by reflecting off of the sun's light, so if the sun is snuffed, then the moon cannot shine. The moon aspires to shine its own light (as an ideal idol), but it's impossible since it can only reflect light given by the sun.

I was almost devastating for me to witness the effects of how her imposter syndrome and lack of confidence in herself has affected the perception of herself (as the moon) compared to her peers.

Chapter 2 - 太陽・観測

Sun・Observation

Nothing much else to say about this commu. It's more or less a hitting us with the notion that Kogane is the sun just like in the earlier intro commu. But more importantly, it's showing us  more of how Kogane is like the sun even when she's off-stage.

It's also nice to juxtapose how Yuika's view of Kogane differs from how others and the rest of L'Antica see Kogane.

Sure, there is no denying that Kogane is like the sun, and that everyone sees that. But again, what's remarkably different is that the other L'Antica members do not have the feeling of  "akogare" (憧れ) when they see Kogane shine. This is why they were perfectly fine with continuing on for Round 1 without Kogane, and was what led to Yuika being made aware of her "longing" after talking with the producer.

Chapter 3 - ひとり長考

Self-contemplation

I think this has merit to point out, because Sakuya here is describing how Yuika is like when she's off-stage. Unfortunately, she isn't given the space to babble details about her (and Kogane) like she did with Mamimi and Kiriko.

Yes!
Kogane is… full of energy and is open-minded.
As for Yuika… she's a thoughtful person that pays attention to everything around her.

It's because of Yuika's ability to read people, the room, and everything that she's able to do great things and solve problems, and people have come to rely on her for it.

So in a sense, Yuika is seen as the sun even when she herself thinks she is the moon.

In Picnic Basket, she came up with an effective plan for how the entire 283pro office is to look for Kaho's missing potluck. In Long Log Endroll, everyone looked to her for reassurance and a plan of action during a crisis where their phone batteries were drained and ShinyP, Mei, and Amana were missing. In L'Antica TFD, she was also helping around the office (while trying to hide her efforts from ShinyP) and was assertive yet discreet in trying to get Sakuya to open up with her worries.

These among others (ie: pSSR2, She Is, etc) are examples of Yuika being like the sun off-stage. The problem is that she doesn't see these things as anything much to write home about, so it's as if she is fine with being an unsung hero. Which is why I appreciate that ShinyP continues to spoil her with praises (Landing Point) because Yuika herself is pretty reluctant to sing her own praises whenever she does something awesome.

She compares herself to others and pays attention to others to the point that it's getting in the way of how she pays attention to herself. This is why I want her to be a bit more selfish than she has ever been while never losing track of where she is going.

Yuika: (Kogatan) has been bright and full of energy for as long as I can remember.
Although I'm usually not good with the types who get into my personal space…
…It's okay with her, because she's been a bright light from the very start.

So rather than looking at herself, she looks at Kogane. And maybe she's been doing that since the very start.

Yuika: The first time we went on-stage together, I felt like I was swallowed up.
She was so bright. So bright that it was blinding.
She shined the same light that I loved to behold when I was below the stage.
I was drawn to it like a moth to a flame.
Yuika: (It's as if I'm dependent on her…)

Bingo. Just as the moon depends on the sun to shine a light… She was the one who put Kogane up there on a pedestal. Hence the feeling of "akogare" (憧れ). She knows that it's not right and it's plain unhealthy to see it like this, but Kogane's brightness is something she can't ignore or resist.

Chapter 4 - 溺れていくみたい

It feels like I'm drowning

She feels reassured by Kogane's presence. She elevates Kogane up on a pedestal, and it bothers her that she depends on it.

Yuika: (It's not good feeling okay now that Kogatan was there.)
(I'll just be stuck depending on her all the time...)
Yuika: (She's outstanding even in today's performance.)
(Unbeatable… The Best in the Universe… Unyielding…)
(An incredible idol…)
There was no denying that the person before her was like the sun.
l look the other way unless I let my precious wings break.
I can't conquer it if I continue to yearn for its brilliance.

She wants to keep admiring that light, even if the sun swallows her up like a moth to a flame or Icarus falling down after his wings break.

Yet, she is also dependent on the sun being there as a reassuring light.

So what is the ideal distance from the sun?

What is the ideal distance from fixed Point K?

She has to figure it out quick, because I don't think she has much time to think…!

Oh…

Yuika: (If you're gonna be hanging out, then let's try to keep it together unlike before.)
…Wow, it's cold!

She's gonna get sick, isn't she??

Achoo!
*sniffle*
*cough cough*
Uh-oh.

This scene worried me so much… Pleeease don't job, Mitsumineeee!

Also.

 溺れていくみたい
(It feels like I'm drowning)

She was drowning in her ocean of thoughts… while in the bathtub.
Isn't this commu title kinda comedic? Let that sink in…

Chapter 5 - 再生 泥濘から這い上がらせてよ

Revival - Rise from the muddy depths

Great. Just great…!
(37.9°C───…)
(…I can't believe this…)
(And today of all things…? I'm gonna make everyone worried at this point.)
I'm going no matter what.

I've always felt inspired during the moments where Mitsumine makes a resolute decision in spite of everything that's happened. I really appreciate seeing the times she does something self-serving and relentlessly. They're the few moments where she asserts her own will.

So you gotta put me out there…!

I got the chills watching this entire scene!

BECAUSE THIS IS THE MOST RESOLUTE YUIKA HAS EVER BEEN!!!

It was so awesome…! So frightening that she could be THIS intense and demanding! She's practically BEGGING to be put on stage despite her condition. I'm virtually in LOVE with how Shio portrayed the intense Yuika here too!

Is this the same person that has always liked to play things safe?! She's fully aware that things can go to hell if she messes up, but… she answers logically and passionately!!! She knows her limits, and she argues that she can make it through the only few songs that L'Antica has to perform!!!

But what makes this crazier to me is that SHE DIDN'T HAVE TO TELL PRODUCER THAT SHE HAS A FEVER! She's taking medicine…! The fever is under control, and yet she told him what's going on with her and how she's been dealing with it! ShinyP says that she'll let her perform as long as she doesn't hide everything about it from him AND L'Antica… So she has to tell them about it too!

Mitsumine collapsing on stage and causing trouble for L'Antica?
As if that's going to happen!

Is this her actually boasting? The possibility of failure is no longer an option in her mind! Perhaps it's because she's pretty desperate here and wants to perform to meet expectations, but normally she would weigh out the consequences of each of her actions carefully. Yet, she's been selfishly reckless here, and I highly respect her audacity! It's always impressive that she's so dutiful and takes impressing her fans seriously!

And I know that she isn't bluffing or faking it. I know that her words ring true…! I KNOW that Mitsumine will make it, and I believe in her strength.

The old Mitsumine wouldn't have told ShinyP about her fever. The old Mitsumine wouldn't have told L'Antica about it either. She would have done her thing without letting ANYONE know she has a fever! But ever since Yuika5 雨に祝 , she reports to ShinyP about what she's feeling! Him telling her to share this with L'Antica really opened a door, so that she can tell them things that she'd be reluctant to say too! He was practically also telling her that it's okay to share these tough moments with your friends.

Kogane: It's no bother at all!
Mamimi, Sakuya, and Kiriko: *in agreement*
Kogane: Everyone still made it work even when I couldn't make it.
It's the same thing! So there's no issues!
Sakuya: It's as Kogane says. There's no need to feel guilty.
Mamimi: You'll do your part as usual anyways.
So it's not like we'll be in trouble here.
Kiriko: That's right…!
Yuika: …Thanks, everyone.

It's nice that everyone doesn't mind her being sick! (or her even trying to hide it from them in the first place? Since it doesn't seem that she planned to tell them until ShinyP told her to.) Still, they (and ShinyP) don't think of her as a "mendoukusai onna", and I love that!

Don't give it any attention.
I may be in poor condition today, but I won't let the crowd think that.
I'll give them the perfect performance no matter what…!

                                               SHE IS UNBEATABLE!

Oh, look it's me!

This was the moment I've been waiting for!

The roars from the audience… and the colors they hold up high…
They all say that I'm the best one here.
And all the blue in the audience… reminds me of the me from back then…
Back then, I was dazzled and blinded by the idol shining on stage.
And one who's captivated them now, is the me right now on this stage (the me as an idol).

You all noticed it right?! How the text reads "The me right now" (今の私) but Yuika's voice instead says "idol" (アイドル)? That bit was real neat.

Anyways… Her fans didn't come because it was a 283pro event. They didn't come because it was an L'Antica solo live. They come because they want TO SEE HER. To see her light! To be dazzled and captivated by their favorite idol! They came to see Yuika Mitsumine because…

SHE IS THE SUN AND THEY ARE HER FANS!

So it doesn't matter how brilliant Kogane is.

And it doesn't matter how brilliant anyone else is.

Because when her fans look up to that stage, ALL THEY SEE IS HER!

The ideal idol in their eyes (and in mine) is none other than HER!
In our eyes, she is the one that shines brightly. What matters most is that she shines like the sun!

I hope you're ready everyone~!
Because today's the day where Mitsumine and the others will rock your entire world!
──I'm not gonna let you miss it♡

I'm so proud of her!!! She always lets Kogane fire up the audience at the start, and she's always seen Kogane shine each and every time she does it…

But this time, she doesn't want to be left out! She is just as much of a sun as Kogane is! This moment was so good!

It replicated the same moment back in the Introduction commu. But instead of her as the one below the stage being captivated by her first idol/Kogane, it's Yuika as that model idol that captivates the hearts of the audience!

This isn't the time and place for me to keep yearning.

Exactly! You're an IDOL! When you're on stage, I want to see you as the idol that shines as bright as the sun! Not the moon that depends on and yearns for the sun's light! The place to yearn is down here where the fans are, not up there where idols shine!

[Our Mitsumine is the absolute center and leader]

I don't care whether she is or isn't. We see her value as that or even more! Because we are her fans, and we will 100% support her! She finally knows her place, and her place isn't lesser than where any idol is. But we as fans will elevate her up and put her on that pedestal, and I'm sure Yuika Mitsumine will allow it.

Because she isn't one of us when she's up there on stage.

She is an idol. The ideal idol. The idol of our dreams.

Yuika: ...One day, Mitsumine will become the idol of her dreams.
Though, right now I'm nowhere close.

WING (victory)

She's reached it in my eyes. An idol that inspires others, or rather, she's always been it. It's just that her self-perception hasn't quite caught up, but I'm confident now that it finally has…! There is no gap. Rather, the gap only existed in her mind, because she as a fan put Kogane Tsukioka on the pedestal called the stage and leaned on it.

Whether she's sick with a fever and performing and doing her best or at peak condition and pulling off something amazing… seeing her as the ideal idol and the idol of her dreams will never change.

[Idol Mitsumine] will exist as the ideal idol for as long as we stay as her fans.

Chapter 6 -    こがれ

Longing

The thing to note here with the title is that there's an empty space in front of こがれ where the  is missing for あこがれ. We'll get into that a bit later.

Nice scene…! It's exactly how it is when she thinks of them in 心に住む人.
Anyways, it's time for a report. After L'Antica leaves, she calls ShinyP once he's back in the office later that night.

Yuika: Ehehe, the gruel Kogatan made was delish!
Producer: Nice!
Yuika: Mamimin, Sakuyan, and Kiririn too…
Everyone took care of me─ Actually, no… Rather, everyone was so nice to me.

Isn't this nice? She doesn't think of herself as burden or someone to be pitied that everyone has to take care of! She allowed herself to be spoiled by them! Being able to selfishly indulge in and receive their kindness! They refuse to let her apologize for being sick!

Yuika: Oh... wait──
Producer: ?
Yuika: ...Um... There might be something already... uh... well...
Could you... stick around just a little longer... and talk to me...?
                                                                     - NOT≠EQUAL True End

It's similar to NOT≠EQUAL True End. But this time, she's allowing more and more people see and accept her vulnerabilities and being alright with them to be kind to her.

Aren't you a little too sweet?

Back in track…

Yuika: The reason for all my issues lately is because Mitsumine is an idol fan.
Producer: Hmm.
Yuika: "Kogatan's the best" or "Kogatan's the strongest."
That's what I've felt in my heart as an idol fan who roots for her.
Yuika: That's why Mitsumine as an idol fan couldn't think of it any other way.
In hindsight, Mitsumine should have known to think of it as an idol.
Yuika: Even when I was standing in the same stage as Kogatan…
I still had the same feeling of a fan looking up from below the stage.

Yes… Kogane shines so bright that it got in the way of Mitsumine seeing herself as an idol. She had to acknowledge it as an idol fan even if she shares the stage with the very idols she admires.

Producer: To me, Yuika…
You're an idol who responsibly meets all her fans' expectations.
So─
Yuika: Hehe… You're so sweet. Trying to cover up for me like that.
Producer: I'm not… I'm just saying what's true…
Yuika: Thanks, then. I'll take your word for it.
But it's a bit different from what I've got in mind.
Yuika: Mitsumine's able to meet their expectations because I know
what it means to root for someone as a fan. I'm sure that's what you were going to say.
…However, what's been missing was the resolve be the very best in their eyes.

What she was missing was her resolve to be rooted for as an idol by her fans! I'm glad she's finally made this connection! I've been waiting for the "answer" since GRAD!

Yuika: These are the words from a certain fan of mine:
"I don't like it when someone puts my beloved idol down, even if it's from my idol herself!"
When I was told that, I was honestly shocked.
Producer: (…!)
Interviewer: Isn't that kinda… mean for them to say…?
Yuika: It's their little way of telling me to have some more confidence in myself.
I guess you can say that this fan knows Mitsumine pretty well.
Yuika: For example, bringing myself down will just insult everyone who supports Mitsumine.
People don't like it when the things they hold dear are put down like that.
Interviewer: Huh, I get it now…
Yuika: That's why after hearing that, I've decided to stop being so hard on myself as much.

So she's understood her fan's (aka ShinyP's) perspective, how making light of yourself in comparison to others isn't fair to the the ones who support her.

So when Yuika saw herself as a moon when compared to Kogane as the sun, I've felt that this was wrong too. Because fans and everyone else that holds Yuika in high regard sees Yuika as the sun. Now it's dawned on her that she needs to have the desire to be seen as that way.

I've been thinking that the fans waving their blue lights around believed me to be the absolute best.
So that means I've got to make sure that they believe that all the time.
Producer: You're saying as if you've just thought about it, but…
To me, you've always been showing that off to your fans.
Yuika:
Producer: But this time now, Yuika… You're finally facing their way.

AHHHH SAIKOU! She's reached = status!!! Her self-perception as the ideal idol has become equal with how her fans see her!

Hey, Kogatan.
Mitsumine always thought of you as the absolute best.
Compared to you, I'm weak-hearted…
I didn't want to face you just for me to lose.
But Mitsumine also is seen as the absolute best.
So before I see you as a fan, I have to see my fans as an idol.
That's why I won't be yearning for your light while we're up here on this stage.
As long as I'm "here", I will stop being your fan.

Ahhhh so good! It's the best! This is Mitsumine's "correct answer"! Just as she's found the distance between herself and ShinyP, she's found the distance between herself and Kogatan!

The "here" (ここ) is where her answer is! She won't look at the sun, but instead look at her fans! She'll leave her admiration for Kogane below the stage! To be equal with Kogatan "here" and to be not equal with Kogatan outside of "here"!

I love this conclusion! As an idol fan and idol otaku, Yuika cannot give up her admiration for idols or for Kogane, but "here" is the place where she'll finally look the other way and be an idol/sun to her fans! Though, I still think that even as an idol fan outside of stage, she's been like the sun towards everyone around her too!

Going back to こがれ! It's basically _こがれ or (あ)こがれ.
I was chatting with a fellow MitsumineP, and after discussion, we've come to agree that Mitsumine isn't feeling 憧れ anymore when she's on stage, and how she's hiding the full extent of her あこがれ because her entire monologue when she and Kogane were "dueling" was an internal one. Kogane hasn't the slightest idea! That's likely why the title is how it is.

Ahhh, this was so good.

Ending - これは誰も知らなくていい

No one should be knowing this

Huh this title…

Hey, you're the only one that knows it.

wwwwww

Sakuya: Missing out because of a fever… Choosing work over school...
And now paying the price with lots of unfinished assignments…
Any idea who I'm referring to?
Yuika: Mitsumine… That would be Mitsumine…

This is pretty funny because it got me thinking of this from STEP…

Don't tell me... that you'll quit school to focus on being an idol?
You can't seriously be that irresponsible.

She didn't drop out of school obviously, but I think it's amazing how she's able to balance a demanding job and a college degree like this. It's impressive how dedicated she is for both (while still making time to indulge in her hobbies).

Anyways, it's cute that Yuika wants to be able to help around with L'Antica even if they just want her to finish her assignments. (Bully moment). Their way of making her stop helping them is to make her feel guilty that she's behind in school lol

It's amusing because when they went over to her place to give food and hang out, they didn't let her apologize for being a burden. But here, they're giving her a hard time for her trying to be helpful!

Anyways, she catches up on homework to make it out to the afterparty.

Producer: Oh, Yuika.
Yuika: ?
Producer:  Aren't you glad we went here ahead of time?
Yuika: You keep quiet about that!

これは誰も知らなくていい

Is this it? She didn't want the others knowing that she and ShinyP went here to check out for the afterparty?

Yes, I think it's that, but I also think the title can also refer to how she never did tell everyone what she told to ShinyP. She's still deliberately withholding information (even in to ShinyP in past commus). All she's told to L'Antica was that she will be performing with a fever, and that's all they need to know and that's as much as she's willing to reveal.

Closing Thoughts

There was no denying that the person before her was like the sun.
l look the other way unless I let my precious wings break.
I can't conquer it if I continue to yearn for its brilliance.

Idols have wings and that's what allows them to soar.

Idols also shine like the sun on stage, and it's what's drawn the eyes and attention of the crowd beholding their brilliance.

Yuika Mitsumine's circumstance as a huge idol fan makes it seem that even if she's an idol with wings, her wings are made of wax. I think wings of wax is a good image to consider, because back then, Yuika hasn't considered herself as a full-fledged idol.

She was like a faker, like an imposter.

So she can't be drawn to the sun or else her wings will break or melt off. That's what's happened with how she's seen Kogane on stage.

If I_wings

If she loses her wings, then she's nothing more than an idol fan. But even with her wings intact, as long as she faces the sun, she'll risk damaging her wings, and I would argue that it's just as worse.

Part of the process has to be changing the material… or to realize that her wings aren't made of wax. And rather than facing the sun, she should be facing her fans who see her as the sun.

Producer: But this time now, Yuika… You're finally facing their way.

So I'm glad she did it… She finally did it…

I'm so happy for Yuika Mitsumine… Just as Landing Point was the fulfillment of Yuika5 雨に祝福… 月が焦がれる太陽/月 is the fulfillment to GRAD.

I've never been more proud of her… for her to see herself on equal footing with her peers. For her to finally see what her fans have been seeing… And for her to be a bit more open with what she hides…

I can't exactly know what to expect from her next…! They've hit a lot of her own internal issues and dealt with the things that have been holding her back since the very beginning.

I truly want to see her as the main character and for her to feel like one. To be the ideal idol of our dreams.

I won't be going over the support card from this event, but I've read it and
I'M SO PROUD OF YOU MITSUMINE! I'M IN TEARS!

Producer: I'm so happy for you!
