The Dragonfly of OZ [English]

MIGMA SHELTER is the second idol group that caught my ear. In January 2023, a friend sent me a link to Evidence’s livestream, Rabiddo specifically. Then Drops started playing. My body was barely functioning at that moment; my mind was overwhelmed by this magnificent music. I have over 600 Japanese music CDs, from over 100 artists, and of all the Japanese music I have listened to in 15 years I have heard nothing else like it from the Japanese sphere. Heck, this mix of psychedelic trance, vocals, and EDM influences is not something often seen period! This enthralling delight is unique among all the music I have and over a year later MIGMA still sends my mind for a spin when I listen to it.

2023 was a turbulent year for MIGMA, with many membership changes. In November, Mimimiyu graduated. It was a very emotional night; the graduation’s impact obvious on the various members of the unit. Mimimiyu will be missed.

Of all the newcomers in 2023, one of them would stand out to me the most: Nagimuh. My first exposure was during OZ one’s one of Limista sessions; Nagimuh was quite energetic throughout. But it was seeing her during July 15’s ギュウ農フェス stream that had the biggest impact. I was impressed by Nagimuh’s singing during Redo and then impressed by her sheer enthusiasm, and singing, in BANG ON. “This girl can really sing!” was what I thinking after the set. Such an enthusiastic stage presence, powerful singing, and great dancing; what more could one ask for? Plus, seeing Tornado’s choreography for the first time, with Nagimuh, Tamane, and Brazil in the center, was a wonderful delight.

In addition to Mimimiyu’s graduation, one event I was able to attend last November was Dragonfly Vol.1. Being able to rave into the night with MIGMA was very fun! Nagimuh had a cute dragonfly pattern on her face and that night she would give me the sweetest cheki I have ever gotten. But sadly, all things come to an end, as would be revealed to Nagimuh at a later event… Also, everyone was kicked out into the rain before first train www.


In December I attended OZ three’s release events at Tower Records in Shibuya and Shinjuku. It was the first time I was able to participate in a release event! Shinjuku’s stage is a small one inside of the store, with good sound quality. This means one can see the pre-show practice, which is always fun to see. It was also where I surprised Nagimuh with a video request and she was seemingly not expecting it

I also ended up going for food and drinks with two gentlemen before the show that day and regretted not having a Nagimuh cheki on hand for pictures www. Unfortunately, Yuinon was absent from both days due to a prior operation, but thankfully it went well and she made a full recovery after!

Shibuya’s stage is on the rooftop. It’s bigger than one may expect and is larger than a number of livehouses I have been to. From that night, there is one moment that stood out the most for me. During the two-person Compression: Free, Nagimuh was running behind the stage doing a lot of furicopy. It was extremely endearing and showed once more just how much passion and enthusiasm she has for MIGMA’s music. Nagimuh’s love for music is one of the main reasons she became my favorite of the group and it’s moments like these where you can see this passion in full bloom. Also, there were two other Nagimuh oshimens in the front besides myself and we were all right next to one and other. Purple was strong! This event was sadly the last time I would see MIGMA on this trip. This is what led to the amusing, but fitting, “DON’T! NO!” cheki from earlier as I mentioned this to Nagimuh www. Brazil was sadly absent this night.

Of the OZ songs, my two favourites are Tornado and A land switched by a witch. Tornado is feels like it fits in very well with MIGMA’s prior music, has great choreography, and it’s a blast to run in a circle with the crowd. So much so that during Shibuya’s release event I had temporarily left the front row to run in circles with everyone else. Meanwhile for the latter, I really like the vocals. Not just Nagimuh’s excellent parts, but each members’ segments. The song flows very well with instrumentals that compliment it well. This song has become one of my top three favourites of MIGMA’s discography. I’m hopeful that there will be more songs equal to these two in the future.
