「依頼」

その日、神田明神下にある探偵、伊能清春の事務所に女性の訪問客があった。異能の事務所は明神下側の階段「男坂」の中腹の踊り場にある。男坂の階段を昇降する参拝客は少なかった。旧型コロナ禍であり、非常事態宣言なるイベントのような出来事が数度続いていたから外出は自粛されていたからだ。

訪問客の女性は櫻田ちなみと名乗り、異能が勧めるソファに腰掛けた。ちなみは長い髪をヘアクリップで留め、淡い生成り系の色のワンピースを着ている。自然色を着用しているせいか上品な雰囲気に見えた。小さな顔に大きめのベージュ色のマスクをつけているから表情はわからないが、年齢は20代半ばに見えた。

「櫻田さん、今日はどのようなご要件でしょう？」異能が口を開くと。ちなみは口を開いた。

「私の兄は中村邑子のマネージャーをしていたのですが･･･」
「中村邑子というと、あの女優さんの？」

「平穏無事なのは偶然にすぎない」というようなことを中国のSFドラマで語られていたが、全くその通りだと思う。この世の平和は偶然に過ぎないのだ。
邑子が忘れられない。マネージャーとしてではなく俺は彼女を愛していた。真剣に愛していたのだ。邑子が結婚すると言った時には女優業の妨げになると言って反対したが、邑子と結婚したかったのはこの俺なのだ。
ちなみ、バカな兄を許してほしい。俺が死んだら、お前はこの世にひとりぼっちになってしまう。頼る者もいないだろう。俺はそれだけが心配だ。
