My name is Akane Miyata from the Faculty of Social Sciences at Kyorin University in Tokyo!
And I am working on an internship at Kamaishi Seawaves🌊

This time, I asked players who from other country for play rugby in Kamaishi about rugby and life in Kamaishi!

My grandad would pay me money every time I scored a try when I was a kid.

【Why did you choose Kamaishi as where you play rugby?】
An opportunity to play close community in north Japan.

【How long have you been in Japan?】
Been in & out for about year and half now.

【What made you surprised about Kamaishi compare to your hometown?】
People are so kind and love their town. Food is cheap.

【Where is your favorite place in Kamaishi?】
Aeon mall

【What is your favorite food in Kamaishi and your hometown?】
Sushi train. Roast lamb or steak back home.

【How do you spend your days off?】
Driving range. Explore other areas in Iwate. Golf. Beaches.

At high school then U21 at Pakuranga Rugby Club

【What made you start ?】
Enjoyed the game and enjoyed playing with my friends.

【Why did you choose Kamaishi as where you play rugby?】
A lot of history here in this team and town that I want to be a part of.

【What made you surprised about Kamaishi compare to your hometown?】
Quiet town with nice people, no traffic and very nice coastal areas. Very cold in the winter and snows a lot.

【Where is your favorite place in Kamaishi?】
Daikonnon Temple and also the area around Unosumai.

【What is your favorite food in Kamaishi and your hometown?】
In Kamaishi I like ramen and any chicken dishes. In my hometown it is my mother’s home cooking.

【How do you spend your days off?】
Days off spend playing golf or driving up sanriku coast or shopping at aeon mall with my wife.

Can’t remember because it’s the only sports growing up in the island.

【What made you start ?】
It’s the only sports growing up remembering seeing my dad and uncles...cousins all man from my village playing against the next neighboring village man smashing each other on the rugby field then all having a bid feed afterwards laughing about it.

New Challenge and Experience.

【How long have you been in Japan?】

【What made you surprised about Kamaishi compare to your hometown?】
It’s similar to Fiji. Relaxing quiet and pretty chill out. Not much to do.

【Where is your favorite place in Kamaishi?】
I tend to enjoy the quietness of Kamaishi so chilling at home is my go to at the moment.

No particular favorite in Kamaishi but my home favorite (Fiji) is Coconut Fish

【How do you spend your days off?】
My days off consist of sleeping-in then self stretching and then going on my recovery machine ( Normatec and Game Ready) if I’m too tired then some more sleep if not a nice quiet drive along the coast then back home.

They offered me an opportunity to play here so I took it.

Since May 2018

【What made you surprised about Kamaishi compare to your hometown?】
Kamaishi is a remote town with a long rugby history. I heard great things about the fans and the wider kamaishi area. I wanted to come and experience all the great things this town had to offer.

The harbour.

Ramen and sushi

【How do you spend your days off?】
I enjoy going down to the harbour to eat some food. I love heading to the driving range to see all the friendly men at the driving range. I love going up to miyako country club to play. I enjoy going to kitikami to play golf and see different eating spots on the bigger town. I enjoy exploring up and down the coast.

My father always just loved rugby and I was just born into a rugby family and culture.

【Why did you choose Kamaishi as where you play rugby?】
It’s a team with a lot of pride and determination and i want to add to it.

【What made you surprised about Kamaishi compare to your hometown?】
The people are very friendly and always willing to help. The food is also a lot different compared to South Africa. The beaches are amazing in Kamaishi and around Kamaishi.

My favorite place would have to be Aragami Beach.

Ootoya Chicken. And my hometown definitely Meat.
