Naupaka, the story

先生から、Naupakaのお話のプリントをもらって、その伝説を読みました。それは読んだだけなので、ここに掲載するのは割愛します。

Naupaka kakhahakai　：Beach Naupaka
Naupaka kuahiwi　：Mountain Naupaka

海と山にあるお花の片割れ。悲しいお話ですが、次にハワイに行った時にはぜひそれらのお花をこの目に見たいなあ・・と、ハワイの花に興味を持ちました。

伝説には、いろいろなハワイの言葉が出てきます。このお話に出てきたいくつかの言葉を調べました。

heiau

Hawaiian temple:
It is a sacred place. There is a stage paved with stones and ancient people offered the sacrifice there.

※There is a heiau for dancing hula in Kauai Island.

kahuna

People mediated between gods and human:
They were in the next position of ali’i(Hawaiian royal family).
They were the specialists, for example, priest, doctor, craftsman…..

kāhea

The word means calling, making a loud voice, praying, saying hello.
