Hi’iaka i ka poli o pele

ペレの妹・ヒイアカのお話。

Hi`iaka is Pele’s younger sister.
It is said that she was born from egg. Pele warmed and hatched the egg. She was Pele’s most cherished sister.

One day Pele met Lohi’au who lived in Kauai'i Island
and fell in love with him.

Pele ordered Hi`iaka to go there and to pick him up.
In the trip, Hi`iaka fought a lot of things that disturb her.
These battles with the big lizard, monster and dragon took much time.
When she arrived at Kauai'i Island, Lohi’au was dead.
He was revived with Hi`iaka’s power and they came back to Pele together.

Pele ordered Hi`iaka to come back within 40days.
They couldn’t come before the deadline. Pele got angry.

Lohi’au lost love to Pele and proposed marriage to Hi`iaka. They got married.
Pele got angry and killed him. Hi`iaka went mad. Pele was sorry and revive him.

とりあえず、ペレはすぐ恋をするしすぐに怒るなぁ・・。

昨年からフラダンスを習い始めたのですが、そこで覚えるように言われているOli lei がこの物語に依ってる歌だと、それは後から知りました。（その話はまた後日書きます。）
それを知って、このOliにもヒイアカにも親しみを覚えた。これでOli leiを覚えられるかも！（なかなか覚えられないのですよ・・ハワイ語難しい。）
