the Goddess of hula Laka

レイの話の続きです。

Maile Lei

Maile is shrub that has vines. The leaves have sweet smell.

This plant means "the bond", "marriage", "pease".
It is used wedding ceremony and used to protect us from evil sprits.
Maile is the symbol that connect people and people, people and god.
It express holy ties.
Ancient Hawaiian used this plants when two tribes that was fighting reached “peace agreement”.

Maile is a holy plant that gods exist in and the symbol of the goddess Laka.

Laka has the healing power that give vitality to others around her. She is the goddes of happiness.
Laka loves hibiscus. So this flower is said a symbol of vitality and happiness.

In Hawaiian legend, Laka learned hula and chant from her mother. She show it to sister in Ni'ihau island. After that Laka moved to Kauai Island.
Hula spread from here. Laka is the founder of Hula.


ここまで来て、そもそも何故レイをつけるのかしら?ということに興味を持ちました。英語のレッスンではその辺は触れなかったので、また適宜調べてみようと思います。
