#119 遅刻に厳しい国ジャパン? (How punctual Japanese are?)

今日同僚と話していて、水曜日にバリに友達と旅行する予定だったが、空いてが二人共コロナにかかったことが分かって急遽キャンセルになったという話を聞きました。そう今はドタキャンの時代（？）いまこそドタキャンはどんどん許していくという文化を作っていくときなのかもしれない（？？）いや、コロナを隠して来ないで欲しいですよね。いまなら、ドタキャンはむしろ美徳。

日本人は時間にうるさいと言われていますが、これを機に時間には厳しくない人種に進化を促したい（自己正当化感が強い）。いやほんと。人の遅刻にも優しくなって、電車の遅れにも優しくなって、打ち合わせに遅れても「まあいいか」といきたい。別に5分くらい遅れても、特に大きな問題は起こらないし（多分）許してください（本音）。

株式会社ドリル社は2017年にちょっとおもしろい調査結果を発表しています。この調査によると日本人がビジネスシーンで許してもらえる遅刻は平均5.9分とのこと。つまり6分超えると許されないということ。厳しい、というかある意味スゴイ。5分の遅刻で大概なんとかなるでしょっていう期待値かもしれない。例えば電車は時間通りに来るとか。シンガポールでは本数はそこそこ多いので気にはならないですが、そもそも時刻表とかを見たこと無い。あるのか？

面白いのは、部下の遅刻は86%の人が評価が下がると言っていますが、自分の遅刻に関しては許されないと思っている人は76%。10%低い。いや、それでも76%はずいぶん厳しいような気はするけど、10%くらいの人が部下は許さないけど、自分は許してって思っている（かもしれない）。あ、嫌いじゃない。とくにそれを素直に調査で答えてしまっているあたりが嫌いじゃない。自分としては他人の遅刻も許すから、自分の遅刻も許して、、、って思ったり思わなかったり（笑）

I talked with my colleague. She told me that her trip was cancelled since both of her friends got COVID. Yes, now we are very kind to the sudden cancellation(?) From Japanese point of view, its very good opportunity to nurture "less punctual" culture(??) Of course, you don't want people who are positive to come and meet you right? Sudden cancellation is now supposed to be encouraged!

Although it is said that Japanese  are very punctual, I would love to enhance Japanese to be evolved to "non punctual" people. Honestly… I want to reduce a stress/ social pressure to be punctual. It would be very happy for all that if people do not care about if you come on time, trains come on time. I personally believe that a bit of delay doesn't have huge impact to your business (Maybe). So… forgive me Lol.

Drill Inc (2017) is a bit interesting report. According to it, people can accept only 5.9 minutes of delay in business situation. it means you want be allowed if you are late for more than 6 minutes. This is kind of surprising since it shows the trust to social system like public transportation will not be late more than 6 minutes… I don't know if it works in Singapore. Once you are involved in traffic jam, your plan would not work. I actually have never seen a time table for MRTs in Singapore. Is there any??

What I found interesting from the report is that 86% of people said that they don't accept if their staffs do not come on time while only 76% expect that they themselves are not accepted if they get late. There is 10% gap… Well, 76% is still high and shows that most of Japanese do not accept even their late. 10% think that I don't allow their members to get late but expect that they are allowed… Interesting. I love it because people are very honest to answer that in the survey… I don't hate it. To me, it is more like, "Yes I'm patient enough for other's late so please allow me to get late… Please.
