#12 防衛失敗のたまねぎ (Onion failure)

  以前の記事でたまねぎの2020年の快進撃についてかいた（過去記事）。長期王座についていた、トマトを廃し、たまねぎが「大人の好きな野菜ランキング」で首位に立ったのである。熱くたまねぎに対する思いを語った僕は、そこから一週間後のたまねぎの初の防衛戦を固唾を呑んで見守ったのである。王座を取り返そうと体調万全でのぞむ赤いトランクスの元王者トマト、一方フレッシュな白いトランクスの現役王者たまねぎ。ここから長いたまねぎ時代の到来となるのか。いや、もう結果はでているのですが。。。

最終ラウンドまで続く打ち合いの結果、旧王者トマト、判定で王者に返り咲きました（タキイ種苗株式会社, 2021）。たまねぎ派の僕からでも異論のない2.2ポイント差の判定。たまねぎの長期政権の夢は儚く潰えてしまいました。結果だけみると、2020年のみたまねぎが1位。そこにどのような動きがあったのだろうか。たまねぎ党が政治力を発揮した組織票による底上げだったのか。それともパンデミック序盤で、自炊するぞと気合の入った我々はたまねぎの使い勝手の良さを称賛したが、長引くに連れ料理に飽きてしまい手軽に食べられるトマトに戻っていったという人間のエゴなのか。振り回されてしまったたまねぎさんには、これに懲りず虎視眈々と王座奪回を狙って欲しいと思う。タキイ様、毎年楽しい調査をありがとうございます。

Please refer to the past article (Here) for the background of this article. I was so excited about the first onion win in Favorite vegetable for adults in 2020. Onion took down the long time champion Tomato for the first time in 10 years. After writing that article I was so looking forward to watching the first battle as the champion to keep the belt. At the day, Tomato kept the best condition to take the title back from Onion. I was holding my breath watching the match. Tomato, the ex champion, is well prepared in red boxers, while fresh champion, Onion, is so motivated to be the defending champion.  Is this the first day to celebrate onion's departure to the long champion load?

  The match reached to the final round and Tomato won on points... (Takii, 2021).  2.2 point gap vs Tomato which even onion lover like me had to admit that Tomato did very well. The dream to make onion as legendary champion didn't come true. As a result, only 2020 was the unusual year that onion won. I'm wondering what was the reasons behind them. Is there a enthusiastic bloc vote from Onion sect for one time? Or maybe at the beginning of pandemic, people are keen to cook at home and found that onion is such a utility player. But people were tired of cooking soon and left onion aside?? People are whimsy but I really want onion not to give up and challenge to be the first again.
